I was readign through one of my chevy magazines and i saw a firebird with a catback turbo system. Because of where the turbo is mounted it doesnt need an intercooler. and plus it eliminates a bunch of extra work from the look of it.
whats your ideas?
I figured i might try it once i get my turbo. since its less pipe bending for me.

Oh boy, here we go again. Get your fire suit ready you are going to need it.
The remote mounted turbo system, catback turbo system, or sts turbo system is the least efficient turbo design ever devised by man. By the time the exhaust gasses get to the turbo they have cooled down, slowed down, and basically lost most of the energy that the turbo thives off of. If you want to read more on why it is so inefficient do a search but that is the main reason most of us dont like it.

I heard that the STS is more geared towards v8 engines that puch out more exhaust than a v6 does.. You might want to get an electric supercharger instead...
I'm kidding!

STS is an abomination to the world of turbos, V8 engines or otherwise.

They work well for both cars. They are the most simplest to install and maintain, but the cost almost diffuses the merits. The STS, Remote, Catback, etc systems do offer good bang for the buck if set up properly. You can make them quite easily with a few aluminized mandrel bends and some minor welding work. Don't worry about getting flamed. Many people have not tried it for themselves.
No we haven't because physics lets us know how they perform compared to normal turbo systems. The farther away the turbo is from the exhaust the smaller the turbo you have to use the less power you can make. It will produce power but it will be more on par with a heads cam car than a normal turbo car.

hmm i'll look into it more. the main reason i brought it up was because i really dont feel like messing with An intercooler due to the fact i just put a new front bumper on and i dotn feel like cutting it up or try putting it back on again. (it was a nightmare). and bending pipes to fit is just scaring me away from it. i have a pipe bender at work but my time is limited....I am considering just using the catback turbo mainly because it will be lower boost (because i do have 120K miles on my car) and i dont wanna blow my motor yet. haha

oh i know that Im not planning on running crazy PSIs.. for now that is.
untill i have the money to buy a new engine.
