I would say, do a leak down compression test before anything else. Just to be safe. 81k is pretty high in mileage. Everything else you mentioned is good.

Being leary of additives is good, IMO.. i never put chemicals in my car except for BG44K once a year. Don't worry about the mileage.. as long as your car has had a decent life and hasn't been overly abused or neglected, it'll hold up fine.

I neglect my Z28, no one touch it for a year and a half. I jumped it and started right up.
Now if it can just sit for a nother year and a half and fire up next time I come back.
It has a lot of miles you might want to pull the heads and check them out and put on a new head gasket.
Get a new fuel filter and clean the injectors.

81K and you wanna pull the heads? Overkill.

You are on the right track with fuel filter, plugs, wires blah blah blah. Might wanna switch to Mobil 1 oil too, if you havent already.

At 81K the motor should still be in its prime. Id be more worried about the tranny and other accessories.

if you've been on regular dino oil dont switch to mobil id say its to late in the mileage. a full syn can cause leaks. if your an automatic do a fluid filter change, add a tranny cooler. then the basics.

I switched my car from regular oil to synthetic when i bought it at around 75000 miles... no problems. It only causes leaks if you already had leaks with the conventinal that had been filled with gunk and clogged up. In which case, the synthetic would slowly remove the built up gunk and leak through. If you have no leaks with Conventional, however, you'll have none with synthetic.

I'd totally recommend switching all your fluids to synthetic. Hell, i even grease the bushings on my panhard rod and LCAs with synthetic grease. Synthetic is awesome stuff; Can't go wrong with it :D

I totally agree. Pulling the heads with less than 150k is not necessary.. all you'd find is a pair of perfectly fine head gaskets.

I'd rather have a small leak or two with synthetic than have no leaks with regular crappy oil :D

synthetic protects better hands down, been proven many times. why a person wouldnt go with it in a high performance application is beyond me.. even if it was only for extra insurance

Like stated a syn will clean the inside of the motor out, which in turn can cause a leak. i agree with goin syn trust me all my cars have had it since day 1. It was just a heads up it can cause leaks. and dont forget if your goin turbo u need 1 stage colder plugs with a tighter gap.

Hell yeah. I saw the inside of an oil pan that had Mobil 1 in it it's entire life.. it was the total poster child for Mobil. Not one ounce of sludge, no metal, no nothing. I belive it had almost 100k on it, and it still looked brand new. Synthetic is the $hit.
