More like everybody not just f-body drivers. You will find people that ***** about everything on every car board.

Ok, here is why you are an ***:

#1 I posted my opinion that the car wasnt a great streetable car, and the first dyno pull didnt register a totally usable powerband.

#2 I dont get an attitude with anyone on the board, until now. I never ONCE have gotten attitude on this board......NEVER. THis is the first time ive even called someone an ***.

#3 after i posted my "opinion" on this video, you say "Well, its faster than you" and "keep running your 15's troll"

#4 You post a video of a boosted import on a clearly domestic board and not expect to get some flack for it? Thats like posting a video of a Klan rally on a Black panthers board and going "look at how well organized they are".....it doesnt work (its a metaphor before i get crap for that also)

Bottom line.....to sum up what i said: "I dont think that car is all that great."
...and in return i get:

"Troll, and keep running 15's."

Well, thats cool. Ill run 15's in my camaro, and if you happen to see my post in the lounge about my project car, ill run 8's in that, 9's without spray. Maybe that car will impress some VW guys..........who knows.

Peace

This is the only automotive board I have ever read where some people immediately flame any other car that is mentioned on the board... And, Ian, you did flame the car right away. "That's the dumbest thing I have ever seen" is not an intelligent observation, it's a flame. Then calling it a "dyno queen" and even calling it "gay" is REALLY a flame. If you were trying to make any kind of real point, it was buried under all of that other b.s. It was almost an attack on the company who built the car. (which has established itself VERY well in the world of forced induction) And how did you know the powerband was 900 rpm? I think 110 to 140 mph in fifth gear is a tad farther than 900 rpm.

And the close-minded comment wasnt aimed at anyone directly, it's just been a general observation on this board- The mention of one auto manufacturer is immediately replyed by someone calling it "gay" is really immature. I personally think that the Firebird is one of the "gayest" looking cars that GM has ever made, but never once have I gone out and flamed them. There is such a thing as showing respect to other cars, not just F-bodies. If it makes horsepower, I'll like it- plain and simple.

Oh, and another thing Ian- I could go on your lounge topic and jump in and say: "That looks like a gay Mustang-trailor queen that cant handle." But I'm not- but that is essentially what you did here. I know that's your car and all, and the R32 isnt even mine but I know the company and VW's have a special place in my heart, so I have to defend it.

(and no, I dont really mean that about your car- I dont like Mustangs but it looks like it will be a beast)

No offense but dont take ti too harshly...

I enjoy most cars but to me that is not a power band I want, I admit I don't know what the gearing is like on that car. But even if the car could handle on rails I think it would suck on a road course because that dyno spikes very vertical. You woudl have lag, then the power woudl kick in.

If anything I see that car doing better at the dragstip since you stay in the power band at a dragstrip and no so much in a road course/autocross situation.

Just an observation, I am not "hating it cuz its a VW" just going by the numbers I see.

But I enjoy a car with more of a flat power curve...

If you don't like the Firebird what is your purpose of you posting that on this site? Second he means 900 rpm between numbers like 6000 - 6900 , meaning your powerband is near useless in a race because your peak power is reached briefly (within a 900 rpm range , not at 900 rpm) and not spread out so that you can take advantage of it. The engine in that car is nothing special, as was said before, put a huge turbo on anything and it will make power. I'll take my 3.8 F-body over that 50 stickered-up, suped-up econo-box any day.

On a different note, what is the purpose of HP vs. MPH graph? I mean with so many other factors that would be inaccurate and to me seemingly pointless.

I knew what he meant by the powerband- If you pause the video when they show the dyno plot screen, it's making around 350 hp at 90 mph, and it climbs to 600 by nearly 140. Let me do the math:
5th gear ratio: .86
Final drive: 4.24:1
Tire diamater: 25.1" (they arent stock wheels/tires, but we'll assume they are nearly the same outside diamater)

@90 MPH, that's 4395 RPM. Ok, roughly 350-370 wheel hp at 4395 RPM.
At around 110, it's near the 600 mark. So, at 110 MPH: 5860 RPM.
The car nearly holds 600 hp until around 130 when he lets off, finally ending the run around 135 mph. Doing the math again: At 130 MPH: 6348 RPM.
And at 135: 6592. So from 4395 up to 6500, (it's "happy" zone over 350 hp) there is a 2105 RPM powerband where the most HORSEPOWER is made, including peak hp for 650 RPM's. Sure, it's not a small block V8 type curve, but we dont have a torque curve plot, so we cant compare the whole picture. Also, some environmental issues would change things, like intercooler efficiency when the car would be moving, etc... And as aggressively as the transmission is geared, there should be no problem using that powerband. Here's the rest of the transmission ratios just in case anyone cares:
1st: 3.36
2nd: 2.09
3rd: 1.47
4th: 1.10
5th: .86
6th: .72
Final: 4.24

Sock figures:
0-60 6 sec.
1/4: 13.8
I've driven one of these in stock form and they're fast- hard to imagine what three times the horsepower would feel like....

So, is that enough data for it to earn some respect????

this whole respecting anything that is fast has got to stop. just because a car is fast in a straight line, or has tons of power doesnt mean it automatically earns respect... if some ****ty little honda makes 500hp and runs 10s, that doesnt mean I respect it, even if I lost to it. In fact, I wouldnt even feel the least bit bad or humiliated to be beaten by some ugly crappy car thats obnoxiously fast. I'll respect the cars and drivers I like, and continue to not respect the ones I hate, no matter how fast they are. :D

I respect any car that is fast because of the work that has gone into it. Those EIP cars have always been fast and they have done some amazing things with them. In fact they have more in common with V6 Fbodies than LS1's do. I cant say I'd ever own a civic, SRT-4 or VW and mod em to run 10's, but that should still be respected. There will always be elitists, whether it be domestic cars only, V8's only, or whatever. Bottom line is that car would hand some people their asses on the street and the track.

His view isn't stupid. All he's saying is being fast doesn't automatically demand respect. I agree with him. There's an LS1 owner out here that claims to have the fastest LS1 FBody in Colorado. Even if he isn't the fastest, his car is still pretty quick down the track. Only thing is, the guy is a complete tool, so therefore he nor his car gets any respect from me.. see what i'm getting at?

to get down to my point:

any car with that much power deserves respect, yes, but like i said, its not really streetable power. oh well, still a lot of power.

oh, and that mustang will handle.....just check out the suspension

as far as going fast in a straight line:
GN's are notorious for this, but i could care less. the Grand National is still my favorite car of all time. I would honestly take a GNX over a viper, vette, pretty much anything until you reach the "exotic" car level......

I can see your point Teufel, but the fact remains that GNT66 doesent respect a fast car that he doesent like... that is closed minded. If the guy is a toolbag, then fine, dont respect him, but at least respect the people who built his car. If its not something you would own, who cares? But again, like i said, its his opinion and he is not the first nor the last to think this way.

Can we move this to the lounge or something??

LOL yeah. I can remember many many times where I've said: "man, that guy's a douche, but his car is fast-"

-Ian- there's something I do agree with you on.. I love GN's too, I'd give my right nut for one that's cherry. ;) I could care less how ugly the interiors are or how they handle like a barge. That stuff can be fixed. I had the pleasure of driving one for about three (very fast) miles, it was a friend of a friend sort of thing. I was merging on to a 4-lane highway, and he said, "ok, when you mash it, you'll feel the turbo lag just a bit" and I was like, ok- so I turned down and hit it- *vroom!* "wow, this thing.... *whish!* Holy crap!!!!"

I think I smiled for a month after that.
