    for the turbo GURU's of this board.. tell me what u think...

    As most of you may know, im doing a rear mount turbo. I've been doing some research as far as turbo's and compressor maps... for the rear mount i know im gonna want a smaller turbine A/R so i wont get so much turbo lag.

    im looking at the Garrett T3/T04E Hybrid Turbo.

    here are the specs of this one im looking at.
    0.50 A/R compressor housing
    60 trim compressor.
    t3 turbine with a .48 A/R turbine housing.

    Now. in order for me to find a perfect match...i looked around on some gn websites and said for the 231ci 3.8 you wanna look at around, 40-42lbs/min and about 2.4 pressure ratio. is that right? if not please correct me.

    anyways another thing.. for the turbine a/r... is that too small? im worried about it killing topend with something lower than .50 A/R.

    let me know if i picked out the right turbo for rear mount.

    Why rear mount on a V6? There is alot of space in the front. Hell, If i wanted to I could probably hide a chineese family under the hood of my 3800. Tons of room man.

      i'm not going for ALL out performance... I would be happy to run a mid 13. Just want something unique.

          its never been done on a V6, so you need to talk to some rear mount people or tryal and error then post and let us know for future use.

            This may or may not help...
            You will choke top end with a .48 A/R.hotside @~ 4500-4900 RPMs when put in the traditionally way(a good analogy, we built a 3800 fiero with a small nissan turbo...PK TQ was at 4800RPMs and this was on a 5 speed this was put in the conventionally way...the engine bay)...so it stands to reason when placed at the back of the car, due to expanded xhaust gas the PK torque would PROBABLY move to about 5200-5600RPMs a gain of ~400-800 more RPMS. That is plenty, however since you are using a stick I will IMO opt for a slight bigger turbo or easier get a bigger compressor wheel...NOT housing...the bigger wheel will theoretically add more lag but push MID-TOP end deeper into the stock power band of the CAMS...5600-5800RPMs...
            remember this is all theory...although it will be very easy to experiment with different trims/configs...since the hairdrier is more accessible...

              so the a/r is about right for rear mount. just need something bigger than a 60 trim?

                    Tyler...it really isn't about right or wrong!?! That is the problem...If I am not mistaking, a 60 trim comp wheel might be the biggest wheel you can fit into a .50 A/R (garrett) standard...meaning you wouldn't have to worry about boring/machining the comp housing or trying to modify the backplate...I do strongly believe though you will need a bigger wheel...and unfortunately it might not be cost effective...then the other option will be to go to the next housing up which is a .57 A/R which is still a better match for the hotside's .48 A/R...
                    we have narrowed it down to 2 configs... 1) .50/.48 bigger comp wheel (I am positive it will provide the characteristics you are looking for or 2) a .57/.48. The rule of thumb will be to go for a slightly bigger unit...and because you have a stick, loading the engine might be more easier to drown out the definate LAG!!

                      Actually it has been done on a v6(i think) somone posted a video of it sometime within the last 6 months. It sounded.. well.. interesting. But do a search.
