• 3.42's or 3.73's to compliment a Supercharger???

How much of a higher rev will 3.73's give me over 3.42's? how much shorter will my 1st gear be? also i have an M5 do u think this will really hurt my highway mileage? I have a set of brand new 3.42's ready to be put in, but i'm really contemplating getting the 3.73's in there instead... and selling the 3.42's .... would it be worth it to hop to the 3.73's? I am planning on doing the SSM package along with my blower setup for next year....

plus the 3.73's would probably help bring the boost from the supercharger up quicker right?

k it is way too late for me to be asking questions....i need sleep bad.. any help would be appreciate... thank you.

I just had 3.73's installed, and I will have a powerdyne in two weeks. In addition to that, I have the supersix heads in my garage awaiting intense rocker arms.

The 3.73's gave me better mileage. This may not be normal, but it just goes to show that they really dont effect mileage much, as long as you still drive the car the same way (I only gained like 2-4 mpg).

I hope to be tearing up the streets by the end of the summer with my mods.

This post may not have helped too much, but I just wanted to let you know that I will be running 3.73's with the mods that you mentioned.

I would do 3.73's in a second... but there a couple of things that i'm worried about....

a) Do to the higher rpms, it'll put more strain on the blower.
b) I don't want my shifts to be extremely short...
c) gas and mileage isn't really an issue....i currently have 3.42's in right now....so i doubt that the 3.73's will increase my mpg by too much.... i'm more worried about the higher rpms putting more strain on everything else.

hmm... good call... that alone would probably want me to stick with the 3.42's...

I am getting the 10 PSI kit from BATMAN, and I just bought 3.73 gears.

Should I sell them, and get 3.42? Are 3.73's really that bad for the supercharger?

well, u probably won't have any slippage issues.. because u run on the grooved side of the belt..... but... i dunno.. i couldn't really say cause i don't know what 3.73's are like in blown applications..... i personally would not want to drive my car if my 1st and 2nd gears were extremely short....but i don't really know how short they would be with the 3.73's......
also the 3.73's will have ur car running at higher rpms....meaning ...everything else would probably be gettin a lil more strained.... but i dunno... its a tough call.... i might just stick with my 3.42's for now just cause i have them.... but not too sure...i might change my mind if someone can convince me

What does BATMAN or Mach Performance think about this topic(3.42 or 3.73)?

you didn't have any slippage issues? with the 3.73's????

that, and overall strain on the car is what concerns me the most......

Gas mileage doesn't really bother me, but running into more problems down the road does bother me.... i.e. tranny going etc... dunno if the 3.73's would incrase strain on the tranny or not....

3.42's are the best gear ratio overall. They pull good enough own low and have enough top end to become the best V6 application. The only person here that has been very successful with 3.23's is 12secv6. The only people that have been successful with anything higher than 3.42's is magnus/zach running in the 13's NA. Other than those exeptions, 3.42's rule. Kris (slacker69) down here in Houston was cutting like 1.6's 60 foots with 3.42. No one else on the board rivals this feat whatsoever. Get or keep your 3.42's. Nuff said. ;)

The best person to respond to this would be the man himself, Stephan. He had this and then went back to 3.23 for some reason. I think it was because of the short shifts, noise, and bad fuel mileage.

I plan on getting this too. I think the boost comes on alot quicker and you get a great bottom end take off. I'm not sure about the top end?

From what i remember him telling me is that he got a ticket and wanted to prove that his speedo was off, so he threw the other gears on there so he could get the ticket cancelled and since then he really hasn't had time to get them changed back. From what i remember, he had no problem.
