• avg. person setup a turbo?

hey,
could i set up a turbo on my car is i read into it? make the piping, exhaust flow, and making a turbo fit is the trouble right? i would use an intercooler and stuff. but i would just have to get pipes and bend and weld them so the flow is good correct? or is there alot more, i proballly wont do it but if the responces are not that bad ill think of studying up on it if not ill just buy a kit that will come out eventually.

I think you should wait until someone comes out with the kit for your car. Let someone else do the R&D since you aren't too sure about it all.

Well,im going to agree with DaWhoady and not reccomend this for an average shadetree mechanic.

Even without taking into acount efficiency, but strictly the actual physical task of connecting both banks, to a turbo, and routing the exhaust piping out of the car. Then taking care of the air side of the setup, installing an intercooller (where????) and tuning it all to work, is not a job for an average person.

A friend of mine is 95% of the way through on his V6 TT setup for a 00 mustang, and the amount of work, (not to mention tooling costs he has spent) makes me think twice about doing a project like this.

Besides custom piping hardest part in my opinion is having someone tune the car. Its easy on imports that have been done a million times but not so easy to find people that know our cars and can tune the turbo to it. Dyno time is expensive
