  • Are 3.42 or 3.73 Gears best with a supercharger setup??

I put 3.42s in last year with my posi, i'm running a 6lb powerdyne sc right now, with plenty of other mods including full exhaust. I'm wondering if i'll see a fairly big gain if i jump to 3.73s? With 3.73s my rpms would be higher right? therefore wouldn't i be putting more strain onto my blower? Especially if i plan on doind a bit of highway driving this year, i just have one 7 hour trip to go to and that is it. I don't do much highway driving. But i also don't want to put too much strain on my blower either. I've also heard that with the 3.73s some top end speed is lost as well.

so what do you guys think? stick with the 3.42s or give the 3.73s a shot?

    thanks

If you are doing mostly in-town driving, the 3.73's will be fine. If you plan on going freeway a lot, stick with 3.42's. If you'd like best of both, get 3.73's and get taller/wider tires and rims so you get quick off the line and good freeway mileage.

To add a bit to it as well, Ive heard that if you go from 3.42 to 3.73 you wont see much of a gain, now keep in mind that is what Ive been reading all over the place. Is there some sort of truthfullness in there...Im sure there is some sure.
Also, for such a small difference in gear ratios, you also get all kinds of problems with the spedo and all that goes along with it.
IMHO, I'd stick with the gears that are already installed, and use that $$ for another mod...

well if there isn't too much of a difference between the 3.42's and the 3.73's maybe i'll just stick with the 3.42's......it might even save my blower in the long run...

thanks for the info boys... it is appreciated

I currently bought 3.73's used, and havent installed them yet because I have been saving up for SC project. Should I sell the 3.73's and get 3.42's? Thanks.

What do you currently have in there? If you are going from a 2.73 or a 3.08, yea, Id drop the others in there....
If you already have a set of 3.73's keep 'em and drop 'em in there and tear up some tires...Get the LSD as well. It will make a WORLD of difference.
