My setup uses forward swept headers and a properly sized turbo and it spools nearly instally, ask ellik, I gave him a ride the other day at only 5psi. Sam Strano asked me if it was a ball bearing turbo when he got to drive it. I have yet to get a dyno, but I'd have to say matching a V8's power and torque is doable.

At the end of the day I would say a properly designed setup that keeps the length of pipes to a minimum will always be better and if you're going to sink a couple grand into your car for a turbo kit there is no reason to do the rear turbo setup.

I do have to vouch for his setup. Not only is it one of the prettiest engine bays ive seen, its performance is impressive. No lag at all, instant power from the moment he hit the pedal until he let off.
I cant say that ive been in a lot of FAST cars, but his definately pulls harder than the few near stock LS1's ive been in.
Dyno, and more importantly track times this spring will be fun.

That is very good feedback. That is an awesome
setup too. From the looks there is no denying your
performance either. How much did that set up cost
to fabricate if you don't mind me asking?

Definitly go with headers. Check around theres a dyno of an LS1 before and after the STS turbo setup. It lost over 50 lbft of torque at 2500. It didn't pass the stock hp till 3000. Thats on an LS1.

Funny you should say that. Over at camaroz28, more than one prominant STS owner, and one a distributor of their products, says that headers have little if any benefit on the STS kit. (this isnt my opinion, but the opinion of a person that owns an STS car, and sells them as well)

I checked out their site to see what STS was all about and in the "magazine articles" section, the first article was funny yet sad. They had a Stroked-'n-Bored LS1 to 396 in which they put this kludgy kit on and the fbody got 12.56s @ 118. Isn't that what that engine would N/A with pcm tuning?

Yep, you'd think a V8 car would have no problem getting decent times out of a turbo car. Hell, the trap speed isn't even impressive for the setup, Shirl went 11.8 @ 113. If that doesn't demonstrate STS being a dyno queen... i don't know what does.

Yeah it seems like there was alot of confusion with what is advertised, especially on the website. You can find alot of v8 owners who swear by them, but I did alot of searching to find out just how much a difference this kit can make. Not every setup is 100% the same. I questioned the performance myself until I tried
it. Like mentioned before, the best way to gauge
performance is to get some dyno numbers compared to street numbers (G-tech). I would like to see
a base system for an lt1 or ls1 line up against
a supercharged vortech unit and maybe one with a
modified all motor. The same can be done with a
3800 engine. Compare 0-60, quarter mile times,
                  costs, etc.

there are a bunch of excuses flying around as to why that particular car wasnt faster, one of which was a cracked block

it is slow because the design is stupid.

Unless you have built a turbo system, pull of the turbo to play with trims and housing you will come to see that an STS has a rightful place...
is it the ...ish, by all means no, but like a typical human who would generally try to defy things which are new and foreign...the STS might not stand a chance!!
Anyone old enough to remember the debacle of the Aerochargers...a very prominent turbo setup...but because of negativity and bias the units didn't grow like it would have grown perhaps if it came out today
