i was talking to a guy in my math class the other day about my plans on my rebuild and he started telling me about all these cars that he knows about and he said something about a twin turbo got put on a 2000 GT and it ran 9's then i told him about shirl being super charged and juiced he said i know someone who is turboed and supercharged i said ummm that kinda defets the purpose don't it they both do the same thing he said not the air is forced into the super then it forces even more into the engine like a double push i just turned my head and laughed now at the risk of sounding stupid this is a dumb idea right i don't want nobody to pop up and say hey that works

:D Actually, I've never seen it done in the US, but I've seen a few modded Porches with both. Also, I think the new Aston Martin V8 can be ordered with this combo.

Don't know how or why, but I've seen it done. Maybe someone from the FI board can help.

My opinion, he was probably full of poo. ;)

I know a turbo runs off the extra power wasted by the engine and a supercharger puts power into the engine so It would work good I guess.

They only why it will work is if you had a roots-type or twin-screw blower focing air into the engine linearly for low end response and then had a huge turbo that will accept the engine displacement, as well as the low rpm supercharging, and the higher rpm boost made by itself. In a perfect world, the supercharger will spool the turbo up faster and create boost somewhere around 3000 rpm and will help up top. No, the supercharger boost and turbo boost don't get added together, once the turbo makes more boost than the sc, the supercharger just experiences blow-by and is not used anymore. This is very expensive to have engineered right. Most people who use turbos use nos to help spool the turbo quicker. There is lots of flow math to be done if you want to match a turbo to your engine. If you are going to do it, do it right the first time, every time.

This was asked just the other day ... there's one system called the HKS Twincharger for imports ... a supercharger and a turbo, one makes up for the others inadequacies.

Ummm I think you're thinking about it wrong. A turbocharger has 2 housings on it, the impeller housing and the compressor housing. The exhaust flows out of the engine into the impeller housing turning the impeller blade and then goes out to the rest of the exhaust. This impeller blade doesn't compress the exhaust and shoot it out faster, just uses it as a wind mill type of thing. The impeller blade is attached to a rod which is connected to the compressor wheel (might be some gearing in there too to step up boost) which then takes air in, compresses it and sends it up to the intake. Both a supercharger and a turbo charger do the same thing. The only difference is how they spin up. Supers use a belt that's hooked up to the engine therefore having more parasistic loss and the turbo works how I explained previously. Hope that helped ya out.

also look at the Sport compact car magazines Ultimate street challange. They have a video of it too. One of the guys that entered his car has a mr2 that has both a super and a turbo. They said that it ran like *** and always broke down though....
