So thats my intercooler. Its mounted infront of the radiator, with the outlets pointing to the passenger side. I know its a bad place to mount it, and it does pick up some heat from the radiator if your just sitting at a stop light and the fans aren't running, no big deal though once you are rolling. Did the install myself, I'll be the first to admit that its a hack job. Made it out of exhaust and radiator hose from napa, total cost 60$. Took about 5 hours to put it together, most of it spent chasing exhaust pipes and clamps, and trying to cut steel with a dremel.
Its picks up about 15* on a run from 30-75. Its not as good as some of the front mounts I've seen that pick up no temp at all, but its one hell of a lot better than the 140+ temp increases I was seeing before.
The instalation of the intercooler allowed me to pick up about 6-8 degrees of timing on the top end, and the boost is more stable, I was getting occasional spikes before.
Huge improvement in power, even when its not under boost, aparently the turbo was a big restricion to have that close to the TB.
As far as increased lag, there is a little bit, but its way more than worth it. And when I let off the compresor doesn't stall once,it does it multiple time, makes an interesting sound, kind of chirping, where as before it sounded like someone sneezing into a tube.
In short to any of you that are considering running more than 6psi without and intercooler, like I was, your nuts.
