Why are you losing spark up top?

why would a company come on here and try to sell a product that they cant legaly sell for atleast a couple more months

the whole beta thing was to show ati it works so ati would back the kit and they could then market it, as in im sure ati will be selling the kit and not really mach, make sense

also ati kit itself could be delayed since not all the beta testers have had them running on their car yet

cant wait till iron man gets his put on and gets it running

LOL. hopefully batman is doing well and im sure mach is still making up more excuses for delays..

I'm getting impatient. I've been trying and trying to get my car to pass inspection so I could move on to the Mach kit from the Powerdyne. No matter what I try, I either get an SES light or the self tests don't complete. I hate this new OBD-2 emissions testing crap. Whenever Magnus has that software available to purchase I should be able to program out the problems.

Right now I don't care that my car is 1 year out of inspection and the tags expired last summer. I'm going forward with the install. You all (and I) have waited long enough for some kit results. Instead of trying to go back to N/A which is going to be a PITA for me without buying or borrowing parts, I'm going with my previous N/A dyno for a baseline. The only change I've made since that dyno was the SPEC flywheel/clutch. I'm guessing maybe it's worth an additional 5 hp at the wheels. So baseline numbers are 220rwhp/224rwtq.

I got started on the removal of the Powerdyne and install of the ATI unit last weekend. Here is a photo album that I will continue to update with photos as the install progresses:

Ironman what issues are you having? EGR and O2 sims are available ... what else could it be? Can you not boost for a few days (remove the pressure tube) until it completes? What codes do you need to un-throw to pass?

I had the EGR hooked up until this past weekend, it was the only place I had left to mount the FMU. EGR was not a problem.

The latest problem is the rear O2 sensor, Bank 1 sensor 3. It keeps throwing a code for no activity. I've tried 2 different brands of O2 sims with no luck. The wires are fine. I asked Mach's tuner to turn off the rear O2 sim b/c I have done the same with LS1 edit on my 2000. They said it couldn't be done, so I'm wondering if it was turned off incorrectly. If I go back to the stock computer then I face random misfire codes due to the cam.

The car is already setup for forced induction, I already sold my MAFT+ and N/A induction stuff. It's just not worth it to do N/A, going back to stock injetors, I already have the 36lbs installed. Plus you must realize the risk I take driving the car anywhere with expired tags and inspection.

is the problem failing inspection just because the SES light is on? I know in Va you'll fail just cuz the light is on. I failed cuz mine was on. Want a simple solution to pass inspection? Just pull up the black odometer sheet and place a piece of electrical tape over it. Then once you pass, pull it right back off. Never will need to replace bulbs or anything.
I kinda doubt that that's the inspection problem, but if it by chance is...that's a solution

Oh man, removing EGR to mount the FMU, gotta love it! I have the ZZP EGR Sim.
I can't believe that they can't turn off the code for you, or that O2 sims won't work. Need one? I have a spare in my toolbox, and I'm pretty sure the one I have is working fine. (bought as a used pair).

The inspection involves plugging into your cars ecm and scanning the emissions diagnostics parameters. Any DTC codes thrown and you automaticly fail. You also have a series of tests that run on the car to check O2 sensors, EGR, etc. A 98 model car is allowed 2 "not ready status" on these. Anymore than 2 and you fail.

I just found out recently you have to run the rear defrost and AC for 3 mins at idle to place load on the electrical system as part of the testing. My car is garaged, I never use the rear defrost, which would explain why I would have so many "not readys" since the tests could not complete.

Anyone have a stock 98 3.8 M5 Camaro in my area that I can put my computer in and take for inspection? That's the only other solution, unfortunately I don't know anyone close with a 98 5spd.

                        ???

                        Man, that's unreal!

They have emissions testing up here in Northern VA but all they do is stick a probe in the tailpipe and let the car idle for 30 seconds.

Mine wouldn't even pass that, so I have my car registered at a buddy's house in Richmond where there is no emissions testing. Technically, my driver's license says that I live there and everything.

Is it just your city/county that emissions tests or is it the entire state? I have a hard time believing that all of North Carolina now has those balls-out tests... 90% of the state would fail!

Register your car out of town. Works for me...

Wow after reading the last few posts I am so glad that there are no emission tests in Oklahoma.

It's for the highly populated counties in NC, so around the Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro areas with lots of cars. Each year more counties move to this type of inspection.

We used to have the tailpipe sniffer. I could just pay someone on the side for a sticker but not anymore with the 96+ cars. It's really not that bad if you can program the computer. I have heads/cam/long tubes and not cats on my LS1 car. With LS1 edit you just turn off the EGR and AIR, delete the rear O2 sensors, so you don't even need sims. It doesn't really matter how rich/lean it runs. So I just roll upto to get inspection, they plug into the computer, no tailpipe sniffing and it's done. As soon as Magnus has his software available I can do the same for the V6 but until then I'm stuck.

PA just started doing emission testing very similar to yours on 96+ cars. But lucky for me, my 96 engine is in a 92. So I just get a visual inspection for a cat and egr. My check engine light is always on, and there is nothing they can do about it.

We have the OBD test here in Maryland. I was throwing the infamous 420 for the longest time. I would clear the CPU and get an extension until one day out of blind luck I pull into the emissions place and the guys did a manual overide and passed my car. If you looked at the inspection sheet, all the readings were 0 cfm but passed. They said they just liked the car.
