That motor was also made from GM with many refinements making it one of the better motors they've made
personally i think that the ls1 and what is the ls5 i think are gm's best motors!!!! no nooooo arguement there.

Yep airflow is everything. Boost only gives you a reference to determine how much air you are flowing over naturally aspirated.
I'm glad someone finally pointed out that what counts is airflow, not "boost". 10psi of intercooled boost will go a long way (120-150+ extra rwhp) whether it's a v6 or v8. Besides, a poorly designed turbo system can make less than a properly designed turbo system at the same psi. And trust me, the Icon system is NOT poorly designed.
Now, lets talk about the GN motor. I'm asuming this is not gonna be a race-only car, so don't go any lower than 8.5:1. Realistically, for a street car, you're prolly looking for a 10 or 11 second car, right? So lets figure 500-550rwhp. You'll want to over bore the cylinders and put some forged wiseco pistons. You don't NEED forged connecting rods. Just shot-peen the stock ones. you'll want your typical Fel-pro lock-wire head gaskets and ported-and-polished heads w/ oversized valved that have a 5-angle valve job done on them. Get a properly sized turbo w/ intercooler, run about 15psi normally w/a boost controller set to 20-25psi. The 15psi can be done on 93octane (properly tuned) and you can run the 20-25psi w/ 93, but run an alcohol injection system for that much boost. Safeguard yourself and run a higher octane for the higher boost.
For computer issues, you won't have too much of a problem switching it over since it would be OBD1. For tuning, use a FAST engine management system. check out www.merkelengines.com. They are doing the GN motor build up for GMHTP. Also, in a past issue of GMHTP, there was a guy who did a gn swap into a bird.

just getting your heads, cam, and rockers done will lower boot pressure a bit, but you will make more power and flow more cfm. hell, if you were to have the ATI kit on your car w/ stock everything and it set at 10 psi, and you were to do intake & exhaust mods(whisper lid, K&N, FTRA, CIA headers, 3" cat, 3" exhaust), you'd see lower psi levels, but you'd be making a lot more power at the wheels.
great info guys obviously im gonna need to do some more homework but i am readin up on turbo sizes. i will do more reasearch. soo far all i have is a short block, but im working on strenghtening it ive herad better connecting rods for the gn. obviously better heads, i read up on this shot peening process even though i really seems as if i wouldnt work i hear it makes a difference.

soo besides the tta crossmember and obviously some suspention upgrades one peice ds, what all is involved in putting this engine in. i dont think ill be able to have air conditioning. how much do people usually charge to do such work or would i be able to do it myself? what is actually involved in tranferring the engine is really what im asking? how much approx.

At a good, reputable shop, you'll prolly be looking at $1500-$2000 just for labor. also, instead of get a TTA crossmemeber, look at www.bmrfabrications.com and they have a tubed, crossmember replacement which may work for you.
Good luck,
Royce

soo i see the crossmember then have the reputable shop have them drop the engine do you think this shop will take out the air and do all of the computer reprogramming? what about routing the exhaust i can have a shop run cutom piping? another thing is motor mounts. i hear that the 3rd gen camaros have completely different mounts from the 4th gen. soo the 2000 dollars should cover everything after i complete the motor, or what other expenses are involved? thanx for all your replys

i think my 3.4 is dead. soo i need to drop this engine soon. i think the ignition and valve train is shot its smoking at startup, i think prolly valve seals or somethin. and it boggs at high temp i think maybe ignition. i dunno. well i fugure this is the time. gotta collect the nessesary parts. i want this engine in within a year or less. i miss my carrrrrr
