Ok I want to upgrade to a 9lb pulley, what will I need to upgrade right now it is 6lbs and everything that I have is stock right now, I know I will have to change my fuel pump but what else?

even the stock pump can (supposedly) flow enough fuel with an FMU but the main reason for something like the whalbro is that the whalbro is 'stronger' and will handle the increased requirements much better. People also don't want to be a test subject to find out 'just how good the stock fuel pump is' the hard way. [img]smile.gif[/img]
so yes...aftermarket high perfomance fuel pump is pretty much a must for safety sake.
what what i can tell from reading the stock injectors flow enough fuel for 9psi and are not mandatory. i think mighty thor has 9psi and stock injectors...? i don't think he has hptuners yet...i might be wrong. MT...care to give us a rundown on your system?
(i think that bigger injectors and tuning software and wideband gauges and stuff like that are more of a requirement when you add aftermarket cam, p and P heads, etc.. on top of a 9 psi powerdyne. I say I think because this is still a relatively 'new' area.)

I think the main concern is your fuel pressure and your injectors. At 9 psi your fuel pressure is going to be around 104 psi running the powerdyne fmu with a 6:1 ratio. Which is alot of pressure through the stock fuels rails. I did this for about a year until, I think it was Art, said I risking of blowing up my car if something happens under the hood. Also my injector pulse width were always over 25ms and would see 30ms at the top of each gear. The norm is 18ms which is 80% duty cycle, so one could look up a injector as well as blowing up there car with a busting fuel line with too much fuel pressure. I'm saying this is going to happen. I didn't have a problem with mine for over a year. It could happen so just beaware of the dangers. I just have the basic. I can't do much else because of emission here.
But, there used to be a PD user way back and he was running 10psi+ and maxing out his stock pump. I believe he did have GTP injectors, or it may have been stock-not sure. He replaced the pump with Walbro 255 and he did fine from there.
I think John_D was experiencing the same thing and he was getting low 14 with his stock pump. He connected Boost-A-Pump and he broke into the mid 13 sec. So there is a difference.

johnd had nitrous as well though.
I did forget to mention the fuel pressure. our stock gear is rated at someting like 60 psi...there abouts...fuel rail, rubber lines, etc...?

I am getting closer to a basic overview/guide for converting 6 psi powerdyne to 9 psi and up. (money, money, money) 9 psi (taking engine safety into account) is exponentialy more complicated than a 6psi set up. That might be my opening sentence....

I think it will be a pretty 'open ended' (full of disclaimers... [img]smile.gif[/img] ) write up. I will be trying to track down things like max injector potential...80% duty cycle, etc. I also want to include some bin files to give a starting point for the fuel curves...you know...more than the usual..."just play around...do some test runs for about a year....you will figure it out...." it is a rather scary topic...going from 6 to 9 psi. big difference. I think for me it might not be worth the expense of all the related parts to gain the 30 or so HP to the wheels...so all my data will be second hand.
I should be able to assemble most of the related topics here and maybe pose some specific questions to ya'll 9 pound vets. (for instance...the vortech fmu that ships with powerdyne kit is not adjustable...but it is 6/1 ratio and that might be overkill. If it were 4/1 ratio then 9psi x 4 is the same fuel pressure as 6psi x 6. I don't want any blown motors on my whatch though. if it were safe to swith to a 4/1 fmu with the 9 pound pulley then that is cheaper and far easier than WB 02 gauge and tunning software and tunning and bigger injectors and more tunning, etc.)

don't need to change fuel rail. Not much can be done about the rubber hoses either but all of your connections need to be pro.
the problem is that at 6/1 ratio the stock rksport vortech fmu could add up to 60 more psi to the fuel rail (boost spike of 10) which would be about 110 psi on the stock fuel system. that is scarry to some people. (and it should be) It is far less of a concern to run the fuel rail at upto 80-85 for short periods. (6psi = +36 fuel psi + 50 (stock pressure) = 80psi fuel pressure (there abouts)
It would be helpful if some of the more advanced FI vets here had more info in there sigs or especially cool if they had even small websites describing there systems. some of the turbo guys are running well into the 300hp range and that would be some good data to have on hand.
I would even host the info on my site...any takers?
