  • MORE knowledge please

hey im really looking into supercharging now. i have 90k miles on my 96 3.8 m5.
i think im going to go with a used powerdyne if i can find one. i dont have the money right now but am making a list of all i will need to collect. I am planning on running 6. psi no more.

my mods: slp cai, pacesetter headers, magnaflow high flow cat, edelbrock cat back(complete 3 inch from motor back) msd dis4 and wires waiting install

    planned mods: z28 rear end

required powerdyne mods: gtp injectors, higher capacity fuel pump(included in kit), fmu(included) tuning- i would be doing tsp mail tune, guages: boost, fuel psi, maybe air fuel. thats i can think of.

okay so this is what i have so far. i think the exhaust/p.d./msd will work well together. does anyone see any flawed thoughts/incorrect information here? also am i missing anything? im not wanting to tear into the motor so i dont want to do cam or whatever. i just want a quiet 6 psi s/c to make a sleeper(a loud one cuz my exhaust). thanks guys for your help.

You might want to beef up the tranny, the T5 doesnt like power at all, just ask eric (shenanigans).

the gtp injectors (36lbs) are not 'required.' If you do upgrade the injectors you can remove the fmu...but the engine will have to be tunned for them. (i see you have mail order tune in your list)

powerdyne kits don't come with a fuel pump kit anymore (new kits don't) Some of the rksport kits have come with an inline 'boost a pump' in the past. you don't have to upgrade fuel pump to run 6psi...but if your current pump is stock then it has nearly 100k miles on it so swapping in a whalbro255 might not be a bad idea.

you already have headers and a full fat exhaust so you will be getting good airflow. you are correct...you don't need to tear into the motor for a cam swap to get substantial gains.

        good luck on the project.

What is the deal with the T-5 anyway? what do LS1 cars do? break three months off the show room floor?
from what I have been reading the A4 handles more torque and that just seems goofy to me...expecialy when you throw in the fact that LS1's have about 340 hp stock. Am i missing something?

okay so i can run stock injectors? are gtp's going to be safer? i also noticed i missed spark plugs in my list. any recommendations? are the guages i need correct? will i really need a tranny upgrade with 6psi?and a walbro255 fuel pump. sounds like fun ;)

                OH....
I thought they had 5 and a 6 speed optional upgrade.

make sure you have gone over this list...
                  http://home.comcast.net/~grayman99/P...-CheckList.htm
most all of the items mentioned also have guides on my site.

download and preview the mcaanda instructions along with my addendum.

i wouldn't worry about putting in new injectors yet. try doing this one thing at a time. get the system working with the 6psi pulley and the fmu first. once the sytstem is installed and working fine then a follow up project 'could' be to swapp your stock injectors for the 36# gtp injectors, remove the FMU and tune (hptuners + wideband) or TSP custom tune, etc.)

some piople have a hard time finding affordable fuel pressure gauge. (wide range in prices) You want an ELECTRONIC gauge not a mechanical gauge. You can find an electronic gauge for about $60 and you will need a matching SENDER for it...about $50. I have a NORDSKOG gauge and sender combo...works great...i have seen many 'autometer' FP gauges having problems reported here in this forum. http://www.nordskogperformance.net/p...tail/m8034.htm
They have a sender as well. you can try and shop around for similar gauge and sender at summitracing and places like that.
just make sure you get the correct diameter for your A pillar pod.

you can find NGK tr6 plugs for less than $3 a piece. one of the famous '3800' online parts stores sells them for WAY TOO MUCH MONEY so be carefull.
you can regap your stock plugs down to .035 but the deal with the TR6 plugs is that they are two heat ranges colder than stock and this reduces the chance of pre ignition and the smaller gap also reduces the chance of a missfire from the spark being blown out under high compression (boost from the blower)

I had my powerdyne 3 yrs and for the last year I was running over 280 hp at the wheels with no tranny issues. I recenlty put in a Spec 3 clutch and have been running it pretty hard with no tranny issues. So I think you would be safe with the stock tranny running 6 psi.
