  • welders: need advice...

ive got a pretty plain wire feed craftsman welder. we picked it up on sale a while ago for about 200 bucks at sears.

i know just about nothing about welders besides the actual process/technqie of welding. What sort of jobs would i be able to tackle with a welder like this.

will it be able to weld portions of my pacesetters/ypipe? I'm assuming these are not stainless...

as far as cutting the pipes, it will be done with just a sawzall and an angle grinder.

That welder is only made for use on thin material like exhaust piping. So it will work great for that. You probably will not be able to get a good weld on anything over a 3/16" thick.

I am new to welding also. I just recieved my welder this week and spend the last two nights messing around with it. I got a 110v hobart. I got it basicly for exhaust work. I am making turbo headers for my truck. Although I am just going to be tac welding them and then take them to my uncle to get tig welded.

I am assuming you are running flux-core wire which required no gas. That should work fine, but if you plan on using the welder alot, I would get an argon/co2 bottle with solid wire. It comes out much cleaner.

sounds like ill probably see how much i can get done with this one. if it works, im not really too concerned with how the welds look. i can always clean the welds up afterwards anyway.
