Saab Intercooler

Just came in today. It looks very good and clean. I got it for $60 from a Stanford college kid.

I went with Saab intercooler because it looks less restrictive and easier to mount than the rest. I tried the water test and it seems to go right through it very easily.

Now I have to figure out how to mount it. Most of all, I really have to figure out how to get the air to it that's the most important thing. Without moving too much things.

Is there couplings I could buy somewhere?

Is it for you 98 or 89?
You have 1 to mount some where, I have 2 saab inter coolers to mount.
2 saab 2.0L inter coolers feeding my 3.4L engine, it should intercool the h3ll out of that air [img]smile.gif[/img] . Good thing I order my plasma cutter.
I see the couplings on ebay but I think that there to much.

Just do it close to the way you saw in my pics....Its pretty much the same thing as my Greddy intercooler. I almost bought that one instead but I wanted to e able to say I had a Greddy instead of saab and spent a few hundred more just for the name.

The way mine is set up is ....Well never mind you can see it in my pics...... But the bottom of the intercooler wich is 10 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 2.75 inches is roughly about 4 inches above the ground (so far no srapes or bumps after about a hundred or more miles of hard driving)

About 4 inches of the bottom of my intercooler receives DIRECT air flow from the air coming under the car.

The other 6 inches worth of intercooler sits DIRECTLY behind the two fans in front of my engine.

There is a definite power increase with this intercooler set up and I cant wait to hook up my manual fan switch to take full potential of the intercooler.

With traction on the street it dropped me over half a second compared to just the powerdyne. Unfortunetly I cant get traction at the strip so I dont have times to back it up yet.

Soon I will get a dyno done so you can see how much of a differance this simple intercooler set up really made.

As far as silicone couplings...All you need is a 90 degree elbow and two 2.5 - 3.0 inch silicone reducers.......Then get some T bolt clamps and be prepared to cut your outlet tube in half. Hook it all up and your done!!!!!!

That could easily be done in 20 minutes because the saab intercooler is MUCH EASIER to make work than mine was.

One more thing......Measure the intercooler and give me it's dimensions. If it's more than 17 inches across it will be a tight squeeze but we will make it work.

Please keep me posted on this. Ive got quite a bit of info on it since I pondered how to make it work for a month and then recently did it.

There is a contest in Hawaii sometime this year. Watch out though, there are guys that calls themselves natural but in truth they've only been off the juice for about a year or two.

I may have to hold on the Intercooler for a bit. My 89' bird tranny just went out. Alot of my family member recommend that I get rid of it, but it's family to me and so I have to fix this first.

I will be sending the intercooler to a machine shop so that they could remove the small inlet/outlet tubes and replace it with the size that is the same as our PD's tube. It's going to cost me though. So I have to take things one at a time.

One question....Isnt the inlet and outlet pipe coming from the saab intercooler 2 or 2 1/2 inches???????

If so you just need to buy silicone reducers to make it work.

The piping from the powerdyne is 3 inches.

The piping on the intercooler should be 2.5 inches.
These will not match up.

However...If you go to the ebay motors section and do a search on silicone reducer......
You will find many couplings(silcone connectors) that will let you hook the powerdyne to the intercooler without doing any welding.

Look on my intercooler pic and you can see how my intercooler pipe is smaller than my blower pipe. But the silicone reducer still lets them meet up very effectivly.

Yeah, I looked and studied your set up. The I.D. hole is 2.13" on the Saab. I thought about it but I've decided to just go ahead and make everything even. I don't think it's an advantage or anything. I'm thinking of mounting my IC close to my ram air hood. Sort of like the WRX. Oh well, we'll see.
