considering the fact that import drivers put insanely wide rims on their cars w/ narrow tires doesn't help them off the line. u see many of them running 18x10 or 17x10 rims w/ 275 width tires on them. they have great top-end pull cuz of the hp, but blow it off the line w/ no traction from the tires. the supra drivers that r smart go w/ drag slicks. My point is, people look at huge hp levels to go faster in a 1/4, while we're kinda limited in that dept., we should focus on suspension, drivetrain, and chassis more, since if you can dead hook off the line w/ a 250 hp V6, and a 325 hp v8 spins, you have a chance. Just an idea...

This is one of the first questions I asked when I joined this board.
Why hasn't anybody taken the GNX approach to building an F-body?
I think one is the cost involved, the V-6 F-body has always been the little fat kid everybody picked on. So nobody ever bothered.
I once was told "you know what the best thing about the v6 in a firebird is?" A V-8 fits in the same place.
Popular mentality has always been why build a six when you can build an 8?
The GN/GNX was different, it was factory fast, a family car, and developed a loyal following of hot roders who needed a fast family car.
I think it is just a matter of time before somebody does apply the turbo Buick philosophy to a v6 f-body, then watch out.
I have to believe that an F-body with the same motor/trany/rear combo as a GNX would be faster due the CD factor.

Your right but its starting to change. Few years back nothing was available for the V6 Fbody and now look. We have almost as much performance modifications as the V8 guys do. Still limited yes but alot of manufacturers are realizing that there is a market for the V6 fbody.

I'm curious here. Have any of you heard of the 20th Anniversary Special 3.8 turbo Trans Ams? They were rare, but they put up the same numbers as the Regals. Here's what some other people had to say about it.

I love the Regals, I love the T/A's, so I gotta love these.

Yes, the Turbo Trans Am had an engine that was remarkably similar to that in the GN's Matt
2000 Firebird

FullThrottleV6.com

...the same motor, in fact, but with 3.0 V6 heads and a slightly different piston. The 3.0 heads were needed so they could fit the motor between the F-body's shock towers.\'87 Grand National (11.08 @ 120, stock motor & heads with 159K miles and bolt ons only.
