  • What can be wrong with my Powerdyne Head Unit!!??!?

Hey all, i pulled out my head unit this week and i took it to a local turbo shop to take a look at it, they haven't yet, but i'm wondering what my problem is and how much it will cost me.....

Problem: It's not turning smoothly, and it feels kind of rough..... there is no squeaking when turning it by hand,it just doesn't turn as smooth as it should... but there is some squeaking when it is on the car and running, but i haven't figured out if that's the idler or the blower.....it still works though, and i can still make good boost off of it, it runs fine to me... it just makes a little bit of a rubbing noise....

Could my internal belt be going? my bearings? what can it be? How much $$$ will i be looking at?

I wondering if my local shop will be capable of fixing it.......i called powerdyne and they quoted me $480 to service it....for new bearings and an internal belt.

any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated....

    thanks

At 6 psi of boost the PD is pretty reliable. Chances are the impeller maybe a little bit off. Something might have hit it.

I've had similar experience as you do. I had a minor squeek then it became major. It was so bad that I could be heard for blocks away. I thought my PD was shot and I sent it in to them. I paid $300 for service. But they said it was fine.

I looked at the pullies is with the kit. I found out it was the idler pulley. That was gone and I put back my stock and still using it today.

If you could find a way to spin you PD at 200-500 rpm and it doesn't squeek then chances are it's probably something else. Good luck

Also unlike the gear driven one, the PD can be spun easily by hand and it freely rotates by itself when spun hard. If it doesn't do that then chances also that there might be internal damage.
