  • New V6 ProCharger kit in development

I've been off the scene for a bit doing some hard-core research and rounding up the funding to lauch this project. -- Part lists are completed, primary meeting set for Saturday, and I've got what I need in hand.

For those interested in what this kit has to offer, email me with the subject line "Coming Plague". Please include in your email why you think you deserve this information and I'll see about hooking you up with the details.

    . . . BTW . . . this kit should be released sometime before . . . oh . .. 2005.

Moderators, please do not lock this thread. This has nothing to do with BATMAN or Mach Performance.

We've been busy here in D.C. this winter. ;) :D

just wondering what is the purpose of having 2 procharger kits? im serious

how is yours gonna be diffrent then batmans his is supposed to be done by a shop is yours?

hasnt batman got probly 6K in his kit
why would you wanna pay 6k for a kit to be made when there is already one on its way

really dont see the point its not even a diffrent supercharger if it was a roots style charger or something i could understand but i really dont get it

w00t didnt say the word "beta" but no really i dont get the point

                  In line with Jason's post:

What are you doing that is going to make it different?

                  Cheaper?
                  Better? (how?)

What is the unique feature of your kit?

Why not? It'll cause some competition and the winner will be us the consumer. We'll certainly go for the cheaper one. Or, who will have the best set up. The most effective blower for the set up that is.

Upon our lunchtime discussion we have decided to release details just in this one post rather than say "e-mail for info". This kit has been in development for about a week and is about a week from being done. (There really isn't that much to it... it's not rocket science to make a supercharger from a V8 fit a V6.)

This thread is partially misnamed. The kit is new, but the design is not. It is simply my design remanufactured and mass-produced by a professional shop. For details of my current system, please see www.projectvirus.com/supercharger . We will not post any web info about this new kit until the bracket is done and we have pictures.

One of the major changes is the new bracket, which features tensioners from the L32 3.4, not the '80 Pinto that my original tensioners were from. These new tensioners are spring loaded so they pick up any slack on the dedicated supercharger belt. Their diameter is considerably larger, making them easier to spin and more consistent. They also give the belt even more coverage on the supercharger pulley, resulting in less slip and higher boost.

Project: Procharger 3.0 will not be sold as a complete supercharger kit. Rather, it is a conversion kit to make it fit on the 3.8. You buy the ATI Procharger LT1 P600B supercharger kit (minus parts not needed, a list will be provided with our kit) direct from ATI, TByrne, or wherever you want to buy it. Then you buy the V6 Conversion kit separately from us.

                      Conversion Kit Contents

                      Bracket
Three steel connecting pieces that connect the bracket to the engine
Throttle body intake pipe (this will vary by model year, 96-98 and 99-02)
Several sections of 3" Mandrel intake pipe
Several sections of 3" rubber hose
                      GTP 2-belt crankshaft pulley
                      Supercharger Belt
                      Low-profile engine cooling fan
                      Installation instructions
List of parts NOT to buy from ATI with your LT1 kit

                      Pricing

Estimated price of our adapter kit is currently under $500. Estimated cost reduction of the LT1 kit because you're not ordering all the pieces--currently unknown. But since you're not buying the entire kit, you won't be paying the entire $3,000 price tag. Even if you bought the entire LT1 kit your total price for parts would be no higher than $3,500. We're currently guessing at least $250 in savings off the kit because of the not-ordered parts so my guess is $3,250 for the entire setup. PCM programming is not needed. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator ($150) is optional.

                      Kit History - Why bother?

From day one back in June of 1999 when I first had my kit installed, I dreamt of someday turning that setup into a marketable kit. I didn't want to make money off the deal... rather, I just wanted to see more V6's out there kicking butt. Through the years, however, I never found a shop willing to work with me on this and I didn't have enough time/energy/motivation to see it become a reality.

Then one day BATMAN told me he had bought a used P600B LT1 kit. Shortly afterwards I drove all the way up to Michigan so that Mike93Z28 could blueprint my bracket design. BATMAN had the blueprints and was going to have a shop install his and make it reproducable, just like what I had always wanted. Not having the means to do it myself, I gladly passed on the knowledge.

However, over time, BATMAN's design one by one scrapped every single one of my design elements. BATMAN's Beta kit uses the ATI P1SC supercharger, ours uses the P600B. The Beta uses the serpentine belt, ours uses a GTP-style twin-belt system. The Beta uses a custom intercooler, ours uses the standard ATI intercooler that comes with the kit. The Beta requires custom PCM programming, ours simply uses the FMU that is included in the ATI kit.

I slowly saw BATMAN's design deviate more and more from mine... enough to the point where the two setups really have nothing in common. They both use superchargers manufactured by the same company and they both mount on the same engine but that's it. Other than that they are completely different kits.

So why are we bothering? Well... last summer Jenn traded in her 95 Camaro 3.4 for a 98 Firebird 3.8. We had originally planned on her using nitrous and me being blown. Over Christmas we had a long talk and decided it would be more fun for both cars to be blown--using the same system. And if a shop is going to manufacture a new bracket and new components for her car based on my setup, why not make several and offer them to anyone who wants to buy one?

I am not competing with BATMAN... I was first. I wanted him to replicate my design, to make it look all shiny and professional, to make it available to the masses. He decided to use a completely different system, so I am back to doing it myself again. I happen to like my setup. It is tried and true, it works, and it's cheap as far as superchargers go. I think it would make a fantastic kit. So we're doing it.

Very good Stefan and Jenn. I thank you Jenn for the early information you gave me a couple weeks ago about this.

This definately needed to be done. We can't wait forever for Mach Performane to get there act together and put together this kit. I'm glad you all realized that the first idea of the Beta kit was just that, and idea, and not a reality atleast in the time parameters that were given, and pushed back sooo many times.

Obviously you have already put the time into this kit (years back) and now with just a little more work your making this avalible to the public - that is very respectable. The price you mentioned is excellent, and you're sure to recover the R&D costs and there's no shame in making profit for your risk.

I will purchase an adaptor kit whenever it is ready to sell.

well I liked the idea until I heard it was still just an adaptation. I'm gonna have to see numbers... so if its a week from being done, over the summer we should have numbers from you 2, and hopefully Batman! dyno #s and price will obviously be the deciding factor.
