Scan of a couple of runs with HPT, any comments or suggestions?

One questions I have is why does the timing jump around in some spots. At some points it consistant then other spots it jumps up or down.
For example I saw a spot where it was 15.0, 15.0, 15.0, then 22.0, then back down to 15.0.

I do not know if I should put this post in the forced induction section or the tuning section. But since I am running forced induction I decided to put it here.

You only have 2 WOT runs in that scan. You can't really compare the spark if you're not at WOT, because minute variations in throttle, load, rpm, etc will all change the spark advance.

The 2nd run in there looks very stable, at 11.5°-12°.

The first one, however, does jump around more. The IAT on the 2nd run was steady, but the 1st one is changing rapidly, so that might have something to do with it.

Forgive a tuning newbie's questions, but what on that scan represents the useage of the injectors and what numbers would have to be there to indicate they were max'd out(i know they're not but i want to know what to look for [img]smile.gif[/img] )

Actually, I mentioned it to him in another post...he is maxxing out his injectors. ;)

Use injector pulse width and RPM. The table to determine duty cycle is here: http://engine.firebirdv6.com/pulsewidth.html

You'd normally want to keep below 80-85% duty cycle.

Actually mine were maxed out at 105% duty cycle.
That was another question I had, the only reason I know this is because Matt told me.

Ah, so basically if you average pulse width is below 20 you're probably okay.

Why would he be maxing the injectors with only 8-9psi of boost running an fmu? I thought our injectors could handle over 10 with a fuel pump and fmu?

I have an adjustable FMU and because of a faulty sending unit or electric fuel pressure gauge (have not determined wich one it is yet) I had the pressure jacked up way to high.

Ah cool. Glad you are getting to the bottom of it. A friend helped me scan mine and while i'm having too many issues at the moment to be certain, he thought i was maxing out mine at 3500rpm! I didnt' believe him [img]smile.gif[/img]

I'm getting my 02 fixed thursday and will log some results after that and post up.

and those scans were not the "best" of scans imo...


for some good scane I think we shoudl take the car WOT 1-3rd

but you would have to find remote location, other then just outside of hooters [img]smile.gif[/img]

This is good info. I always thought that it would take about 12 psi of PD to max out.

Fuel pressure shouldn't have any effect on pulse width. The PCM is programmed to assume a certain fuel flow, and it'll operate on that assumption. If the injectors flow more than the PCM believes, the car will run rich but the duty cycle will remain the same.

I am only pushing an average of 8PSI and I think there are quite a few other people running about the same and they never say anything about maxing out there injectors.

Any ideas?
