Will higher octane gas(114) give you the ability to run more boost with a less chance of killing your engine? Like say if I ran 15lbs of boost on 114 octane would i have less chance of dentination then if i ran 93 octane?
I know this may seem dumb but i'm just curious.

Yea it would. However your engine won't be able to handle it still. Just because you run a gasoline that won't detonate doesn't mean your engine can withstand the loads.

True. Detonation is very likely to cause catastrophic engine failure at high boost, so you can get away with running a few more lbs. But even if you have fuel that will prevent detonation that doesent mean you might not run out of fuel alltogether and go lean, run out of spark, etc etc etc. and then there is always limitations to the stock components. So if you wanna play expect to pay.
If you polish you combustion chambers like I did it can be a replacement for some octaine.
Yes the octaine will help you run more boost, I use octaine as a last resort to power becasue it more than any thing is over rated.
You want to run a rich a/f ratio while under boost to cool you combustion temps and fight off detonation.
You don't want burning carbon embers to form in you combustion under high boost, octaine won't help that problem much.
If you P&P you can run less boost and make more power with cheaper gas (less intake charge heat caused by better head flow).
The right cam will help a lot to.
All ways make sure you keep your oil under controal too.

My heads and intake are almost done being p&p and the cam will be on its way after me and Josh at FTPP play with the numbers

I did that just the other day in 50º ambient temps. 91 octane, 14psi, and my intake pipe (after the intercooler) was only 56.23º :D </font>[/QUOTE]Feels good doesn't it? I just wish it was that temp all the time. It would be nice if I had extra money to tune the car and run that kind of boost all the time.

Everything remaining equal...more octane = more power assuming and ONLY assuming you have the timing to burn it effectively...
You cannot talk about boost and octane and not add timing...this three components determine the power and potential!! The other variable is enough fuel (heat etc)...not octane, but volume!!
P&P + cams etc will give you good gains...however on a boosted street engine, you can only do enough, before you start to pedal backwards...this is why there are two schools of thoughts!! Those who believe in efficiency...the head and cam guys + force induction and the guys who believe in brute force...more boost! On a street engine, more boost = more power assuming you have the octane and timing available...the end game is now up to engine components...everything else equal!!
