Yup supply and demand. They can sell more to the LT1 crowd thus a lower price. They have to displace their own costs. As more v6ers buy more the price should go down. Also not having any competition to force them to lower the price.
ATI1GJ214-SCI HO intercooled System with P-1SC-1 5-7 psi 320 40-55% 36 Months $4,150.95
Thats the cost of the P1SC kit for the LS1 despite the laws of Supply and demand.
I am not saying that supply and demand has no bearing, but i wouldn't think that its the primary reason. I am in michigan and i must say that i see a lot more V6 owners than i do V8.
Without seeing numbers i couldn't say for sure that there are more or less V6 owners who want to spend money on modding their vehicles than V8 owners.
So who is to say what the supply and demand of this kit really is until it becomes available.
There are other factors that go into figuring out the price of a kit such as initial costs.
You also have to remember that a 3rd party shop is using its own and limited reasources to develop, test and tune a kit instead of the manufacture directly doing it.
For instance, I am 100% sure that 3rd party shops have to work with a higher price bracket for initial costs when it comes to parts than the in house costs that a manufacturer such as ATI has. i.e. it costs Bill more to get his hands on an P1SC than it does for ATI.
There are pros and cons to both (a kit being developed in house or outside and thing being endorced).
i.e. ATI has to pay a certain amount to their engineers and staff every year to do what they do. A 3rd Party shop may also has those costs but probably doesn't have to pay the high bracket salary that ATI does to its employees.
ATI probably has something in house to bend their pipes for them and probably keeps a supply of generic parts (clips, bolts, duct work, tubing,...etc) in house. A 3rd Party shop will most likely have to outsource that work with dimensional requirements (now they are paying of the part and anothe person to make it).
I hope my examples give you a better idea of how things work. These are just some examples and does not come close to covering all the hidden costs that come with developing a quality, marketable, reproducable, safe, kit.
Its hard to say without knowing the exact numbers that ATI works with to say if one or the other has more or less development costs than the other. Its just as equally hard to say if that has a direct affect on the initial cost of the kit.
I am sure it also depends on what a manufacture's/company's target profit margins are and how quick they want to see a return/profit.
Supply and demand may have something to do with it in the fact that if there are less people wanting to buy a kit, the return/profit has to be compinsated quicker leading to higher priced kits over a shorter period of time VS If the demand is greater, companies are more leanient towards spreading out their return/profit over a longer period of time.
I for one know for a fact why the kit costs as much as it does. I can tell you that its not because they are trying to rip off their customers.
I said this once before and it applies to almost any business.
If you want Quality its going to come at a cost of TIme (a long time) and (a lot of) Money
If you want something Quickly, its going to come at a cost of Quality and (a lot of) Money
and if you want something cheap, its going to come at the cost of Quality and Time (its going to take longer)
If you make a product that is of high quality that you can build quikly and cheap...then you have found the perfect product. What are you doing here reading this board? you are only steps away from being a multi millionare.
BTW... i bet if you called them up and said you want and LT1 kit, intercooled and with the P1SC, that price is going to be a lot different.

there ARE more 6cyl owners vs 8cyls, but the majority of the 8 cyl owners are enthuhsiasts that perform modifications compared to the 6cyl owners where half are teenie bopper girls and such
