• I am back and I got questions!

Well, after losing the internet for 6 months im back. Looks like alot of crap happened since then.
My car is just about sold, but this spring i will be looking to another f-body.

So my questions are -

Auto vs Manual with boost - Which feels better? I'd assume the manual because you can hold gears.
Maybe someone could list some good and bads about auto and manual with boost, I can only think of the obvious.

As for FFF, I got the intercooler, but no pipes yet. But I won't be needing them untill spring, so you guys are still ahead in my book.

And Shane, sorry but one of the headers i was supposed to send you cracked. Well, i hope you still got to sell your car, BTW, a guy about 1 mile from me is selling his 94 TT Supra If your still interested. Err i think it maybe auto

well, if you are talking about the shane with the forward swept header turbo firebird he already got his supra. as for auto vs stick, it depends on how much power you plan on putting down. if you are planning on 350hp and below the auto would be the better choice because you dont have to let off the gas to change gears (thus loosing boost between shifts). i would suggest getting a higher stall converter for the auto though. If you want more than that with the auto you will have to start thinking of building it up. the stick can handle a little more than the auto and if you are more into auto cross than i would go stick but for straight line auto is the way to go.

It doesn't matter how much power you're running when it comes to Auto VS. Manual. Both trannies can be built to hold plenty of power, no matter what people on this site say. There are people with very fast and very powerful cars with both trannies in this world. That being said, what it basically boils down to is personal preference. There are pros and cons to either one, and you just have to decide which is better for you.

We'll i'd like to go with a manual in my next car, but i just wanted to see the experiences you guys have had with auto vs manual w/ boost

It seems the 4l60E can't take as much of a beating.
Although iv heard of it being built to take alot of abuse. Stock they seem to be just for granny driving.

Although there is limits to the T5, im guessing the 4l60E wont last as long, mine was replaced at 65k miles. The V8 guys seem to have many complaints on 4l60e on there stock cars.

I think i'll go with the T5.

BTW, who rebuilds the performance T5 transmissions?

About building the T5s, talk to some of the Mustang guys... essentially they're the same transmissions. The problem i've run into with my manual and boost, is the inability to build boost off the line. Of course, i could get a 2 stage rev limiter and solve that, but without one i had to launch the car VERY hard to get my track times to being somewhat decent.

Auto = too much money.
Yeah a stick will be slower, but its more fun, and cheaper. Thats why I'm swapping.

As far as making the T-5 stronger, I asked a friend of mine who replaced his mustangs t-5 with a tremec. He said the T-5's real weakness is the casing. Apparently it flexes pretty badly.

It'll only be slower until you get a 2 stage rev limiter, or dump the clutch at redline like i did in the vid i posted. ;)

i don't honestly see what the big deal is here, yes a auto is easier becaus all you have to worry about is the brak and the gas.

if you practice how to use your right foot for both the gas and brake its really not that hard but does take practice

....

wtf.. you have your foot on the brake when you are at the staging lights..

f-that

its flat.. you arnt gunna go anywhere..

-I wait for the prestage lights mine and the other drivers
- i push in clutch
- i push gas to desired lauch rpm
- wait for lights
- and let it loose

its not pretty.. but i can cut 2.0's pretty consistantly on street tires with an suspension designed for AX.. no LCA's no relocations brackets.. no torque arm.. ect ect.. but i am gunna work some of those into the mix soon..

I need it to stop breaking loose at the top of 1st gear.. thats allways interesting..

if you slip the clutch your getting some TQ to the rear tires there for you have to hold the brake, its not as good as TC but it still perloads everything some, and with more gas you can sit there all day and spin them lol

2 Stage rev limiter > your crappy idea. ;)

Even with your idea, you'd only be at part throttle, building only a little amount of boost. a two stage will allow you to be at full throttle building more boost. This method would, of course, require you to have a good setup for traction. Once you start getting to the track and want to start getting the good times, you'll agree with what i'm saying.
