I got a 98 3800 and i want to increase hp dramaticly. would you sugg. a super/turbo charger compared to swapping out a kit to an ls1 .
think ove hp gaines, maint, duability, and install
thanks yall
This baby\'s the envy of F-body owners across(jK), but the Pearly sunset paint with white leather and the 18\" crager rims tell the story. not much for motor mods other than a flowmaster muffler, Ram air intake and hood but im always down to here about super/turbo chargers!
I think that I would go with the supercharger. I was thinking about an LS1 swap for my car, but the crate engines cost like $5800!!!! I just seen them on GMpartsdirect.com. The supercharger would be cheaper, offer comparable power gains, and boost gauges are intimidating.

you got a good point with the boost gauge they are fun. I used to have an eclipse awd turbo and i remember the sound it made when you shifted gears you know that chhhhpppppsssss! sound and the whisttle. wonder if a suprcharger would bring back memories

I have been looking at the GSX, because I want a second car that is turbo. How did you like yours??? Also do you know how much it would cost to have the LS1 installed?

I had a 95 gsx with greddy blowoff valve, turbo timer and down pipe. act stage 3 clutch . i could rost all four tires for about 50 feet. i could take new vetts up to 70 mph. i was 16 when i got it as a gift from my old man but it got taken by the police for doing 155 in a 65, they towed it and my dad to punish me never got it out of impound

i was all hyped on that but in order for a turbo to work i would have to get exuast threw a real tight area twice plus hook up with the induction if i were to do it it probebly be esiest to do twin turbo

It really depends on what you want... Im a v6 for lifer(till I get a vette). I think it's just cooler to build a quick v6. The only charger I know of right now with proven performance is the powerdyne. Typicaly takes our car down 1-1.5 seconds in the 1/4. Best time Ive seen with just it and other regular mods was shirls 13.9 (someone correct me if Im wrong) she had a 15.3 before she installed the blower. I guess with the right cam you may see mid- low 13's....Then with a little nos on top 12's are very possible. Just think about it though. I dont know if shirl runs the blower off stock internals or not but I would assume you would have to build your engine some to handle blower/cam/nos. Ok so now you MAY be in the 12's possibly even better if you got everything matched just right but what else can you do? No one on this board has run 11's as of yet so just to get our engine in the 12's is quite an acomplishment. On the other hand you can go and dropp in a Ls1 and probaly be a few tenths quicker han a blown v6. add a cam and supercharger to that with headers and exhaust and at a minimum you should be running low 12's. Probaly more like 11's. Theres just so much more power to get out of that engine then youll ever get out of our v6. Our engine stock is about 170 (on a good engine) add powerdyne w/ 9 lb and you might be getting 240 if everythings runnin perfect.Add a cam and maybe you'll see 280 if they work well with eachother. put on your headers and full exhaust and maybe youll actually hit 300. Build your engine to a lower compression ratio and throw some nos on there. Say a 100 shot. After all this you may actually be seeing 370 at the rear wheels which is awesome for a v6! But the LS1 could see those same numbers just by putting on a 6 lb supercharger. If he did all the same work as you he'd have a 10 second car compared to your 12 sec car. Thats just the truth. If my calculations of horsepower are way off then someone please let me know. I plan on taking the v6 route and doing all the things I just listed to get to the 12 sec mark and have true v6 pride when I smoke LS1's at the track. But if you want to get to the level where you can petty much smoke everyone at the track then I would suggest the Ls1. Even on the Turbo side the quickest I currently know of is Tiagos 13.3-5 I beleave. Another turbo guy has run a 14.3 but I think he will hit 13's once he gets everything worked out. Those are great numbers but you could just turbo the LS1 and and be runnin 11's all day. Like I say if you want power then the Ls1 is the way to go without a question. If you want v6 pride like I felt the other night when I smoked a new vette at the track cas of a bad driver then modd your v6 like crazy.
