  • Quick, I need help with my Bosch BOV

I finished installing it tonight. I started the car and it sounded sharp when I rev it. I let bleed off to the atmosphere instead of putting it through the intake tube. That's why the sound is sharp.

Now my question. Is there suppose to be alot of air coming out from it?

At idle, the car just seems to want to stall. The rev. flactuates from 800-1200 rpm. Is this normal at first then nuetralizes later?

I can't tell what my boost is because my gauge is broken. But the car does feel fast. I think!?

Please let me know what I did wrong.

its not suppost to be leaking at idle. you are the second person I hear had trouble with this, but with all the bosch BOVs I ve messed with in the past I never had that problem.

Did you buy the BOV new or get it from a junkyard? Some things you need to watch out for with junkyard Bosch BOV's is that the diaphram can sometimes form a tear and leak pressure. Bosch BOV's work well, but arent the most durable. They serve their purpose when you need a BOV for testing purposes, but want to upgrade the BOV later. I wouldnt mess with another one, just find a Greddy or similar on Ebay.

Thanks alot guys. Yeah that's what I thought and yeah I did got off from ebay. I thought it only bleeds off when boost goes down and throttle is shut. Not continous like this.

Now I'm gonna have to find a way to plug up the hole.

Any suggestion on what other BOV I could use? HKS and Greddy, what kind? There seems to be alot on ebay.

          Thanks

I had the same issue with my Bosh BOV. To my knowledge it had never been installed and the diaphram was not leaking. I called Powerdyne since they sell the unit and they said it was not a blow off valve but a by-pass valve and air was supposed to leak past and back into the intake. IMHO I think the guy didn't know what he was talking about. Anyhow I never got mine to work.

Not sure which BOV to suggest, any of them should do fine.

Thanks Ironman. But after that fiasco, I went ahead and bought tyfoon type I. It works really nicely with no leaks at all. I haven't gotten the boost up and then down to hear it working. But with the loud exhaust and engine I don't think I can hear that hissing sound anyway. But I can tell its working. I took the car for a long drive and the blower feels cooler and the idling is more linear afterwards instead of harsh.

I still reccommend the 1G DSM BOV over that black plastic POS.

They can be had for $30-40 bucks on DSM trader.com That's what I used on my setup, and it's a good solid piece of METAL. Sounds real nice too uncirculated.

I almost went for that one. But I got the tyfoon type II (typo on the type I). It really looks good on the blower.
