Engine Hesitation w/ Powerdyne

Hey guys, my engine started doing something bad today, and I'm not sure if it has to do with the supercharger or not. As i'm accellerating, the car kind of sputters- like, it accelerates slower for a split second then speeds up again.

It feels like it felt when I had misfires, but the SES light isnt coming on, and it doesnt sound like anything is wrong.

Is it possible that the fuel filter could have something to do with it? I havent ever changed it in 86,000 miles. God, I sure hope its something simple like that!

Anybody know anybody in Indiana with an autotap so I can check it? Thanks!

Yep, its a misfire. Damn! I finally hit 7 psi today (after tightening the belt), and the damn thing starts misfiring. It sounds like I heard ping 3 times today. Who knows? I dont- i've never heard it before, but it sounds like something was pinging. Should I get a timing retard module? I already have the IAT in the pressurized pipe.

Man, why cant 100 horses be cheap and easy?

Here is a better description- the engine only misfires after it has warmed up. The mechanics think it could be a spark plug wire, but i just had my plug wires replaced (maybe they messed up when they replaced them?). Is there any chance that I have detonation? It seems possible because it only happens when hot, and it just started now that I have 7 psi of boost. I dont use the ignition retard module, either.

On the other hand, it starts happening at 2000 rpm, and Im not really under boost then. Humph.

Any ideas?

It's good its only a misfiring plugs. Go for the NGK TR6 cold plug, gapped at .035.

If Octane rating is over 93, you don't need boost retardant. Do you have your MAF Screen? Not that it will affect it but just wondering.

I have the exact same problem. Started this spring with the charger on. Took the charger off and it still hesitated. In a way that was a good thing because I initially thought my belt was slipping.

Did some research... plugs, wires, ignition, fuel. We changed my plugs to TR-6's at AIS... didn't help. Checked the Taylor 8 mm Spiro Pro wires... no problem.

Fuel filter? 94,000 miles on the stock one. Heh. That's probably the problem, eh? ;) I bought a new NAPA Gold one after AIS when I guessed that was what it was but we've been working on Jenn's car exclusively for the past several months so the shiny new filter has just been sitting on the workbench in the garage. Now that her car is done, though, maybe I should install that puppy...

I just had the TR-6 plugs and new wires installed in august. So, at least we know its not the plugs. But, it could possibly be that the wires werent installed properly?

I checked the wires, and the mechanic didnt route them in their plastic holders all over the engine. He just put them next to the wires.

My ignition control module went out, thats why I got a new icm, new coils, new plugs, and new wires all at once. Thats why Im so pissed!

Here is something that might be important- it is only misfiring when the engine is warm... could it be that the plug wires are touching the hot engine, and they are going bad when the car warms up?

I have the new fuel filter in the back seat- I will post when it goes in. I have no idea whats going on.

Ok, so I didnt get around to changing the fuel filter, because the misfire went away!

I dont know what happened- i was about to take it to the dealer, and I decided to go for a half hour full throttle drive just to make sure the misfire was still there... and it wasnt! And let me tell you- 7 psi sure is fun!!!

I've been at 3 psi for almost a month now, and I'm finnally at 7!!! The tires just love to spin!

As long as the misfire stays away, I'll be hitting the track on friday to post some times.

Check your ignition coil packs, if it only happens after the car warms up, I am willing to bet at least one of them are bad.

Shirl: I wish I was heading to e-town, but im stuck in Indiana (college). So, I will hopefully be going to this little track in Osceola,Indiana, but i'm not sure if it is even open every week. So, I guess I should have said "I will hopefully be hitting the track on Friday". If I show up and its closed, I guess i'll just race the locals on the streets. Haha, riiiiiight.

SkAchilles: I think so too- meineke charged me for 3 new ones, but one is a different color- what color are stock coils? Maybe that will hint me which to change....

But, the misfire is gone, even when warm, so I guess I have a stay of execution until I find the (hopefully) bad coil.
