I'm always hearing about 3.4l turbos... why isn't it as popular in the 3.8s?

Why not 3.8 turbo?

arent there some SS twin turbos out there? If an SS can do it with 2 than we should AT LEAST be able to fit one. I mean, thats what I'd think anyway. They have less engine bay space than us. I'd rather have twin turbos than 1 supercharger.

yea, there are twin turbo set up for the LS1 and LT1 engines. The only problem is they are kits made but they don't have one for the 3.8 V6. Those kits come with special headers to connect directly to the turbo. If a 3.8 wanted to make his own turbo set up, then they would have to get fabricated headers, which are really expensive. Whats nice about a twin-turbo set-up is the turbos are in the back of the engine, then you don't have to worry about exhaust plumbing that much. One large turbo in the front is difficult to design in my opinion for the 3.899\' Black Camaro SS
M6/T-Tops - SLPLid w/K&N | Hurst Billet Plus w/ LSS | EGR Mod
Black 97\' Camaro T-Tops (RIP)

you'd think that, but after playing alot under my engine bay and lightly observing a 3.8, I think fitting asingle turbo into a 3.8 would be easier, and there is more room from what I ve seen, at least on 98 + cars that is.

Tiago NOS'd Bird, are you talking about more room up front or on the sides of the engine? I've messed around mine many times and I can't find a way to really do it, inless it is a twin set-up. If I was able to get a turbo upfront and I had no AC, I maybe able to run a down pipe, but I like my AC :D . Other than that, I can't see of a way. I guess I'll never really know until I'm able to get my hands on the right sized turbo and try and fit it, with maybe some scap piping.99\' Black Camaro SS
M6/T-Tops - SLPLid w/K&N | Hurst Billet Plus w/ LSS | EGR Mod
Black 97\' Camaro T-Tops (RIP)

I took my AC out when I measured my header im making for the turbo, and there is now soo much room, I dont know what to do with it all. LOL
Bottom line, there is plenty of room.New Car--- 2000 Trans Am M6--SLP Lid, K7N Filter, 160 degree Thermostat, Loudmouth Exhaust, Smooth bellows, MAF ends, ASP Pulley, 4.10 gears, Y2K Chrome Vette Wheels, 2\" drop.. In the GM High Proforamce mag they had this guy that installed an 87 GN engine in a 93 friebird. If you look on how that was doon you might get an idea for the new 3.8. The 3.8 used in the GN is the same size and shape as the series2.2004 Dodge Dakota 3.7 litres of raw power!!
Nothing but a 6!
Do you know for sure? John 3:18

"one mans meat, is another poison"...lol!! Seems you guys haven't made a consensus on which kind of setup will be best for a 3800?lol!! believe it or not a twin turbo is twice the headache of one...most of you guys are looking at the physical aspect...this is assuming the guys vouching for a TT are mechanically inclined...it isn't an easy feat...and then there is the tunning? IMO grey area...it can certainly be done but the way I see it a single turbo unit has a better chance...and there is plenty of room to turbocharge an f-body-6...just that no one wants to step up to the challenge. We already know most folks just talk about it, but few are willing to push the envelope...it is kinda funny though...anytime this topic is mentioned someone will always comment on the LC2 (3.8 turbo) engine but no one wants to even try a WAAAAY more simpler project...a 3800 series II V6 turbo...

I'm currently in the process of building up a 85 Buick T-type.. I will be replacing the headers and turbo, and when I do, I WILL be seeing if they fit on my bird. :D-Travis
99 Trans Am, Pewter, A4 Forged, stalled, and cammed
85 Buick Regal WH1 T-Type It\'d be cool if it ran...
94 Camaro 3.4, Teal, M5 The daily beater

The only reason I vouch for the TT set-up is that is what I see is the easiest to design for my car. I would much rather have one single larger turbo. You are right, the tuning would be much easier with one. But with a twin set-up, I would be able to have the turbo's in the back of the engine and I wouldn't have to worry about routing the exhaust as much, if at all. That itself is my biggest headache when trying to figure out a desing for this damn thing. :D Then I can just route the ambient and charger air plumbing up front.
With a single turbo set-up, up front, I can't find a decent route to send the down pipe back to the exhaust system. If I could though, I would be all over desinging a single turbo set-up right now. That is why I am holding off until I can convince myself I have found a reasonable design.99\' Black Camaro SS
M6/T-Tops - SLPLid w/K&N | Hurst Billet Plus w/ LSS | EGR Mod
Black 97\' Camaro T-Tops (RIP)
