  • Difference between Turbo and Super charged

What is the difference between a Supercharger and a Turbocharger? Also, is it possible to use either of these on a 3.1L V6?

    Thanks...

do a search, this has been discussed alot. Basically sc run off the intake of the car (air) thats what they use to spin, thats what they push. Turbo used the exhaust of the car to spin the fan, pushing air. SC are faster off the line, turbos have higher top speed. Turbo is better, SC are a hell of a lot easier to install.

What it is the turbo runs off the exhaust as said earlier while the supercharger is belt driven like with your alternator or other accessories.

        yes

now about SC being better off the line, I don't agree, turbo has the advantage from any point to me, a properly tuned turbo will create full boost at low rpms while SC only makes that at 5000 rpms or more, and will only see partial boost at lower rpms...

Plus with a blow off valve you can spool the turbo by reving up before you take off, it will stay spooled for a while and as such boost will be there at the moment of launch.

            Heh.

Superchargers are mechanically driven via another pulley (like your AC or Alternator) while turbos are driven by spent exhaust gases. They both push air.
