  • which FI guys use a breather?

I have been tinkering with my turbo setup, which is currently running 10psi. Whenever I made a hard boosted pull, the dipstick would shoot about 1" out of the tube and spray oil everywhere. I pulled the PCV valve and it was choking in oil.

I installed a breather cap on one of my valve covers to help vent the crank of all that boosted blow by. NOw, whenever I make a hard pull, my breather cap is literally soaked in oil, and it drips it down onto the manifolds.

I sure do have a lot of blow-by. Do you other FI guys have this problem?

WHen I rebuilt my engine, I used diamond pistons and total seal rings, which are supposed to be really good.

you have to block off the hole in your TB

I have the diamond pistons and the ring kit too, you should be fine with blocking the pcv hole on the tb and adding a breather. I left the filler neck on mine and put the breather where the oil fill cap use to be. I think if you take the neck part off you would more likely have more oil come out. Unless your valve guides are bad, then thats another story.

Simple as this: PCV hole jb'd in TB, PCV tract sliced open in TB, breather installed in oil fill cap. TELL ME YOU DID THIS AFTER HAVING BEEN A CV6 MEMBER!

We post about the breather conundrum all the time. #1 rule for F/I setups, imho.

i blocked the hold in the tb were it dumbs into the air and the i drilled behind that in the side of the TB so it vents into the air

I'm confused...the only hole i see on the throttle body is the little tube that the PCV hose would slip over....what is all this other stuff about drilling and venting the tb?

I have a breather where my oil filler cap used to be. Oil is saturating the breather cap and dripping onto my exhaust manifolds and smoking.

I was wondering if you guys got away with using one breather, or if you need about 4 of them. The way my motor is blowing oil around, I think I will need about 4 breathers, like a sprint car motor.

No I didn't. I figured the more ventilation the better. The PCV only allows air to travel in one direction, right?

no under boost the pcv opens and the boost fills the crank case

plug that hole.... i used quick steel i think when i had my TB off..... if you follw the vien back on the out side of the TB you cann tell where it is.... i drill a few holes in the side so when the pcv open i just vents into the motor bay... no need for a breather...

Grayman has the writeup. I used a dremel wheel to open up the tract. A must do.

See, now I thought that the pcv was supposed to only allow air out of the crankcase INTO the tb. If there is pressure in the tb, its not supposed to open, because thats the whole point of the valve. If there is a backfire through the intake it doesn't go into the crankcase and ignite the fumes in there....I see your point and stuff, just seems backwards from what i learned....

You're right. There is a valve in the intake to control that.

But apparently boost can overpower the valve and get past it. It would be interesting to test it and see how much boost it takes. Or if it just leaks because it's not designed to hold back boost.

I wonder how the GTP takes care of that?
