  • Twin turbo 3.4

OK guys I have $8,000 to spend on my engine and have watched enough twin turbo LS1, LT1, and Supra videos to make me wanna try it on our engine. Any suggestions besides the block buildup like what kind of turbos??? I have an awsome look to the car and am ready to make it a all round show and track stopper. I haven't heard of anyone trying this so since I have the money to throw away I wanna see what a TT v6 camaro can do. Thnx

****tt i'd with 8g you could take all the aftermarket body parts of your car, trade in for a used ls1 or lt1, put the parts back on, take the left over and supercharge the beast. i'd consider it bro.

To figure out which turbo to use you first have to decide how much boost you want to run.

LMK when you decide how much boost you want to run and I can give you a few suggestions on the turbo to use.

I also recommend buying and reading cover to cover; Maximum Boost: Designing, Installing and Testing Turbocharger Systems by Corky Bell

That one book will tell you just about everything you need to know to turbocharge something.

that is awsome you have all this money to play with but i would personally go with a single turbo set up and with that kinda money make sure everything is top of the line perfectly done forged pistons top of the line turbo the whole deal that would be a bad engine if you put 8 g's in it

If you're gonna do twins i'd reccommend going for a sequential turbo setup. Good luck!

go for a single ball bearing T60, 3800performance.com has stuff to build up your block, and you'll prolly have to get a F.A.S.T. system then you'll have around 500rwhp

Now that I really think about it, if you want a turbo setup, have $8K laying around, and aren't dead set on designing/fabricating it yourself, you could just get a shop to custom build you a turbo setup.

              Might save you some headache.

I would take half that 8g's and build up the motor, Piston's, rods, heads, cam, intake manifolds, then go for boost. Get a single turbo and run lots o boost...8 grand is alot. You'd be suprised how far it could go.

I do agree with the build the block up and it is built up alot already from suing the dealership two years ago when I first got it. I know there is a turbo talon in town killing vipers and he has a T-4 Frankenstien in it. I think he is running 20ibs of boost. So I think I wouls be happy with either a huge single turbo or two smaller twins. 12-20 ibs. of boost will be well enough for me.

if he goes with a sequential turbo set up that would be pointless unelss he is going to be running a lot of boost , the sequential setups dont really help too much on V engines due to the lack of boost handling capabilities, and deffinetly read corky bell's book, it is the best recource on the subject, i plan on doing my twin turbo in the next year, however i am not going to be running more than 6 Lbs , and i am going to be using used turbos, if anyone knows where i cna find some used t-02 or t-25's let me know

You could mount it infront of the radiator. You would have to remove, or cut out a chunk of the plastic reinforcement that's behind the bumper.

You can get a custom intercooler made through spearco or a local shop that has experience with turbo systems.

You should go on google and do searches on LS1 twin turbo set-up's. You can see how they mount their intercoolers. The pictures will give you a better understanding.

If I had 8K readily available right now, I'd be putting 4K into my IRA account and then I'd use the other 4K for an engine swap. Now I'd be the first to tell you our 3.4 has potential BUT it's not worth the money you're about to spend... in fact I find it crazy.

But you have 8K you're about to spend and not me so my first question to you is have you taken your driveline components into consideration? I haven't seen any comments on that yet.

Another question is: if you succeed in building a freak 3.4, it's going to be pushed above and beyond it's limits. What will you do if the engine goes pop and your 8K is gone?

You can run an 8 just as hard with minor upgrades and still have a TON of room for improvment... your 6 is going to be maxed out
