At idle during warmup I'm getting smoke like crazy out the exhaust. Its definately oil. I already went from a -4 inlet with -10 outlet to a 3/16 (-3) inlet with the -10 out. I used some fuel line from pep boys temporarily(is it possible this is expanding a little under the pressure and effectively becoming a -4 again?). It doesn't smoke much when cruising when its warm, but once i get into higher rpms and boost it smokes again, not too bad, but it does. Someone suggested running 10-40 oil instead of the 5-30 i'm running now. Please help me out....

haha, wicked, it was rebuilt two days ago.....and the guy who did it is apparently GOOOOD. He said once I switch to the -3 I'd be alright probably, if not then i should take it to his shop. I read on one site since i'm running rich it could be giving me that white smoke too(yes, i know its usually black for rich, blue for oil, white for coolant). I'm stumped...1994 Camaro: Firebird Interior, 3.4L to 3800 converted, OBD2 converted, A4 to M5 converted...In the turbo retirement home...

1994 Mustang GT: 347 Forged Stroker, Port Matched Edelbrock Heads and Intakes, Tremec 3550 T-5, Spec Stage 2

YES!!! Someone in the same boat!! haha, I've been also told it may be cuz i'm at 13:1 at idle, and even lower when it first starts up....I'm sooooo confused...I'm just gonna drive it for a bit, keep an eye on my oil(which really hasn't dropped much, and just tune it...then i'll take it from there. thats really the only thing I can think to do now.1994 Camaro: Firebird Interior, 3.4L to 3800 converted, OBD2 converted, A4 to M5 converted...In the turbo retirement home...

1994 Mustang GT: 347 Forged Stroker, Port Matched Edelbrock Heads and Intakes, Tremec 3550 T-5, Spec Stage 2

Well let me know if you figure out what the problem is, i'm going to replace my oil return line with something wider soon to see if that helps.-Kevin
\'96 White Camaro RS M5
GTP Shortblock - T3/T4 -6psi Intercooled
Open Downpipe

ok, i think i've figured it out. When I first start the car, the oil pressure is at 60psi on the guage in the cluster. This is at the same time its smoking like a bastard and it smells like oil, without a doubt. If i go drive the car down the block twice, and the oil pressure drops down to about 40 psi, the smoke almost completely disappears. If i then go out and punch it to like 5 grand, the oil pressure goes up with the rpms to like 65 psi and i get the smoke again for a min or so. So I think i'm going to buy the needle valve that was talked about in another thread and try using that to regulate the pressure to the turbo. I'm thinking of buying another oil pressure sending unit and teeing that off where the oil goes into the turbo, so i can monitor the oil pressure there(it'd be in mV but It'd give me an idea). I'm gonna try ordering the valve online tonight, then installing it later this week. I'll let you know how it works out. If anyone thinks this is a good/bad idea, let me know please. Thanks.1994 Camaro: Firebird Interior, 3.4L to 3800 converted, OBD2 converted, A4 to M5 converted...In the turbo retirement home...

1994 Mustang GT: 347 Forged Stroker, Port Matched Edelbrock Heads and Intakes, Tremec 3550 T-5, Spec Stage 2

This sounds like coking. Not that I have experienced it or seen it. But my co-worker had the same problem with his custom turbo on his NA 300ZX.
After fixing it, he learned not to just shut off the engine immediately but rather let it run a minute or two. This will let the oil go down.

sounds like your oil return may be backing up oil into the turbo
do you have any pics of the return line.
I use 5/8" which is -10 and I have not seen any white smoke yet and a friend said he didnt see any just black smoke from it being rich
make sure the oil has as easy a way to get to the pan as possible
asdf1234 you just need to run a bigger line i dont know how shane got away with it but everyone I know runs a -10 which is a huge ****ing line for the return

Hey drone, i installed a needle valve that was talked about in another thread and it didn't do jack. At this point I'm pretty much convinced that since my oil return is on such a gradual slope its gotta just be not draining fast enough. Its just hard for me to understand when it all but stops smoking when the pressure drops to like 45 psi.....I guess just more time for it to drain....is there any way to get around cutting and rewelding allllll of my pipes??? I wanna sell this thing now....1994 Camaro: Firebird Interior, 3.4L to 3800 converted, OBD2 converted, A4 to M5 converted...In the turbo retirement home...

1994 Mustang GT: 347 Forged Stroker, Port Matched Edelbrock Heads and Intakes, Tremec 3550 T-5, Spec Stage 2
