It can handle about 350 ft/lbs of torque. You need to look at your complete drivetrain and consider how much torque it can handle, not hp numbers. Don't forget to consider the rear end.180 Thermo, K&N Filter, Transgo stage 2, Pacesetters, Magnaflow cat, Flowmaster Catback, 3.42 LSD, Hotchkis LCA/Panhard, Bilstein, Eibach Pro, 1LE bars, SP crossdrilled/slotted rotors.

Vortech Project 1.0 failed.
Vortech Project 2.0 in the works

The KDS "Hoss" kit is rated at 400-450 lbft of torque, I would suggest getting a heavy duty reverse reaction shell and bearing, as well as a hardened input shaft and housing if you are going above that with a 4l60e2000 Firebird. Whisper Lid, True duals, TSP mail order tune, Built Tranny , TCI 2800 stall verter, B&M tranny cooler, Eaton LSD, 3.42 gears. You will have to ask what they can and can't do.
The site is pointed mainly to V8's
F-Body's and Y-Bodys.
But you can give it a try.

Traction kills transmissions.
Doing burnouts (no load on the transmission causes internal part failure)
The shift kit thing is debateable....some of them increase fluid transfer among other things.\"Since I started working, every single day has been worse than the day before, so that every day you see me is the worst day of my life\"

Just about every problem iv seen dew to transmissions are the follow
Too much power
Towing too much wieght
But most of the problems i see are from people mistreating their transmissions by slamming the shifter into reverse then drive too quickly, neutral dropping into gear, not changing fluid.
Auto is not manual dont treat it like it is.

Torque converter can cause a lot of excess heat on the tranny as well. I shredded my PI VIG 3500 converter and my tranny on the way to AIS last year.
Tranny rebuild with Hi-Energy components(kevlar/carbon fiber)
back on the stock converter right now with no Problems
I have run a tranny cooler since I installed the first converter.
tranny problems have to do with the way your car is setup and how you treat it everyone will get different results.
I believe with my rebuild and hi-energy components mine can handle in excess of 350-400HP to the wheels w/ major traction as in 1.7 or lower 60'. This is going to be spraying a 120 dry shot on a 2800 Yank converter and I'm not the slightest bit worried about my tranny.
