  • Turbo/Superchargers and Ca. emission

I met this cool kid the other day with his tricked out Civic. I complimented him for the work he's done to his car. He told me that he's running greddy turbo with intercooler. I took a closer look at his car and he showed me his set up.

We talked for awhile and we ended up talking about Ca. emission. He told me that he has problem passing it but he goes to another shop to pay a guy to have his car pass.

For some reason, it made me think. For the that are getting turbos here how do you go about passing emission in your part of town?

Is there a way to be turbo or supercharged here in Ca.? Is removing and reinstalling the only way for us?

Only if there is a CARB < NAZI > # on it. Even if there is, as there is w/ the PD's, they can, and do cross it w/ a reference list that has what #'s were issued for specific vehicles.
If it doesn’t match, you don’t pass on the visual portion of the inspection, and your up that creek w/o a paddle.

Out of state plates, but you better have a Military ID, as I was hit w/ that on my TA 5 days after my Active Duty ID expired. Time to pay the piper, as I had to go w/ CA tags, and it totaled over 55o.oo

    or

Just pay a guy at the SMOG station off, and tell 'em your going to be back in 2 years.

Wow, first post in a LONG time...look at all the smilies now! Where the hell is Toto, the lock pooch?

Yeah, good to see you back again. How's that Fiero doing? Did you drop that 3800II SC in yet?

Yeah, out of state lincense is a hot thing in Calif. Police officers are asking the public to help write down some of the out of state ones and call it in.

you can't pass a strict emmisions test, with a aftermarket turbo, if it moves the location of the stock catalytic converter.

Yea, motors mounted, and the harness is finished. I should be possibly getting the harness installed back on the motor this weekend if I can get a few other things taken care of first.
