• is this a catchy title?

i've been doing some research the past week on how to install the powerdyne SC and i've come across a few questions. if it also helps, i plan to only run using the 6 psi pulley for now.

I ended up buying a used kit, since i can't afford a brand new one, so not every part came with the kit.

My first series of question is, using the John D power wrap, would i still need to angle the oil pressure sending unit? If so, what size thread does the unit screw onto? and i do angle it toward the driver's side, right? Do i also need to drain the oil so i wont leak out?

since i'm going to only run 6 psi, do i need to install the inline fuel pump? I remember reading some threads that some people didn't run with the pump on 6psi, but i just want to make sure.

also, at 6 psi, do i need to install the TRC-1? i was reading the Mcaanda guide and it mentioned that it was only for the '95-'97 3800 v6 ONLY. I have a 2001 firebird and if i run 91 octane (the highest here in SoCal), would it be ok without it? or if i added octane boosters to the fuel, would that work as well?

I also need an idler pulley. i'm not sure if all idler pulleys are the same size or have the same size bolt hole, so i was wondering if this one from summit was ok? product number mch-750.

i also see that the powerdyne pulley also expriences a lot of slippage because it is smooth. I've read that you guys recommend getting grooved pulley to reduce the slippage. I was thinking about welding hozizontal lines across the pulley and smoothen the welds to make mini "speed bumps" to help catch the belt. would you guys think there would be any problem with this?

that's all i have for now...i have more, but i want to do some more reading on it and try to understand it before i ask you guys. Don't want to keep bothering everyone. i plan to install it during thanksgiving weekend, so i have to work out any problems that might arise.

yes, plan on installing a brass male to female 1/8 NPT angled fitting on the oil pressure sender. the mcanda istructions are wrong on this point...read my addendum. use teflon thread tape as well. no need to drain the oil. maybe only two or three drops of oil will be lost.

you shouldn't need the inline pump. i don't use one.

i also don't use a timing retard module. not needed with 6 psi and high octane gas. also as you noticed the trc you have is not compatible with the more modern cars.

i don't have time to check on the idler pulley right now....

i don't recomend welding grooves on the pully. i have an asp racing grooved pulley. it works great. if you weld on top of the surface you will tear up your serpintine belt. think how fast it is moving and then think about the resistance the 'trubine' adds.....wrip...boom....

first step is the john d wrap and then get the belt nice and tight and you will have a much faster car. you don't need to go so far as to weld grips to the pulley or anything. not a good idea

thanks for the feedback Grayman. i shall take your advice about not welding grooves on the pulley...i don't want to mess anything up by ripping the belt. :)

Could you let me know about the idler pulley when you get the chance. i want to order it asap. thanks!

I'll have to check my car, but you might not need the angled oil pressure sender with the other belt wrap. Also, you shouldn't need to shave the nipple off the bolt that guides the belt around the crank pulley. John_D wrap alters the belt path and this bolt doesn't get in the way. This is actually a good thing, as the plastic crank position sensor shield that is attached to that nipple actually began slapping against the back of my crank pulley with that mounting tab removed. Like Greyman said, welds on the pulley might snap the belt, as well as decrease the surface area that the belt actually contacts.

could someone tell me if the idler pulley in the link above would work?

NCState98, did you get a chance to look at your setup?

I actually can't tell if you need to angle it or not. You definitely don't need to angle it to clear the belt as that is not an issue anymore. But, I can't tell if having the standard sender will stick out too far from the block and hit the mounting plate for the supercharger. With it angled, its tucked pretty tightly between the oil filter and the headunit.

angle the oil sender towards the drivers side of car or else the blower mounting plate hit the sender.

i used to run 6 psi perfectly fine without the TRC-1 or an FMU ..and also on the stock pump and injectors..i just used the bolted on kit and premium fuel

Thanks Greyman. I guess we angle the sender for both reasons... clear the belt and avoid hitting the blower mounting plate.

PS, I angled mine towards the passenger side.
