• My thoughts on turbo 3.8L's.

First let me say, I am not saying this to be like "look at me" or sound conceited. I am not exagerrating at all either.

First race of the night-03 Supercharger Cobra. Not sure if modded or not. We went from around 55 mph to 90 mph. He hit the gas first, then I followed. We ran side by side, with me possibly pulling a hairlength after I caught him. I hit 90 mph before I knew it and shut down.

    03 Cobra are 390 hp/tq.

Second race-Newer body style Rt-10 Viper. Not sure if modded or not, once again. This time, I really went full throttle. We went from 85 mph to about 120 mph, I hit the speed limiter. The Viper pulled one car length, and I am 100% serious. ONE CAR LENGTH, THAT IS IT.

My transmission did not slip on either of these two runs...Let me emphasize a few things before you all make you conclusions.

I am running stock fuel system besides a Walbro 255, stock ignition, stock tranny. Only 10 psi. Once I get the 36 lb injectors, tuning, msd ignition and a nice tranny in, I truly believe I will rip a Cobra a new hole, and pull on a slightly modded Viper.

Once again, I am not trying to say "I have a badass car." My point is-DO NOT LET PEOPLE SAY "ITS JUST A v6". I am PROUD of my car right now, it KICKS ***. I can not WAIT until I get my upgrades in, and start running the 14 psi and 16 psi my motor wants.

Tiago IS a Turbo God. No doubt in my mind. Once you all get your turbos in, HAVE FUN. BE SAFE. I am happy we are finally breaking new ground in FI for V6 Fbodies, it is something that has needed to be done for a LONG time.

Glad to hear its running strong man, that thing must love the highway. Road tests on the street felt strong, but on the open road I can just imagine how it builds the boost. Keep us posted on the future mods, I wanna see that thing on the dyno/track soon too (HRP is calling your name). Congrats on everything, its been fun working on it.

Well when i think about it, people\haters want to say a Turbocharged 3800 series II motor is not comparable to the buick GN 3.8, I usually hear this crap comming from people that know very little about the Buick GN.

But in reality, it has very much the same potential and modification strategies. The GN engine is a ALOT stronger stock than the 3800, also it has mechanical rocker arms and yet has a flawed oiling system.

Also the Buick 3.8 non turbo engine makes only around 140 to 160 horsepower. Our engines rate to 205-210.

So when he says his car hangs with a viper or 03 SVT Cobra, its very believable. 350+ pounds of torque from a turbocharged power band is enough for high 12's maybe mid, in a 3200-3500 pound car like the f-body y-body g-body.

damn tiago its like a tease when i come to these forums :(

David, sorry I missed your call last night. I was out cold already lol

Great results. I love to hear good results. And as a good friend once said and I quote:

" I LOVE IT WHEN MY WORK WORKS!"

                :D

Glad to hear the tranny is hanging in there still. Get a cooler on that thing and it will last a little longer.

BTW he is runninng a "mutt" turbo. IT has a big f'n ~66 mm wheel stuffed into a T04E housing and a big T4 exaust wheel stuffed into a t3 exaust side. Results is CRAZY fast spool and them whistles going WHOO WHOOO!

Yea folks, it ain't the stock kit. But I am not running this kit to the full potential. The bottle wasn't spraying, and I was running a mere 10 psi.

Glad to hear you like it David. It's a rather unique approach in turbo design philosophy but I was confident it would work for you when I mapped it out before I sent it down to you guys. I can't wait to see what it will run with a trans, converter, and some other odds and ends. I think there will be some hearts broken for sure! ;)

Well, the 03 Cobra SVT has around 360 RWHP, but they weigh close to 4000 pounds. That I believe.

The guy in the Viper was probably an average driver, but heck, anything can happen!

Plus, 10 PSI for us is around 170 RWHP? (I assume) And we do have areodynamic cars.
                        Nice Results!

I've never seen an 03 dyno less than 375 to the tires and that one was stock down to the paper filter and the paper tag! Curb weight is 3665lbs.

The only stock L36 auto I've personally worked with was in a grand prix however that car at 7psi if I recall was 260s to the ground non-intercooled.

For the manual, you can do a search for radcats numbers on a stock L36.

David's car also has a built engine and 10psi on his engine != 10psi on a stock engine. I agree with you definately. Those are some nice results. Now I'm looking forward to 30psi! ;)

30 Psi.... I'm thinking maybe 20 at the max. Speed, I'm not sure if you have any info or not, but I'll give it a shoot. Know of the GN automatic tranny will bolt right up to a 3.8L? Or a Turbo 400 from an old pontiac? I am going to be needing the tranny first, and have started looking around.

I know a guy that has two turbo 400's laying around, he will donate me one for cheap if it will work.......

Anyways. 03 SVT's usually walk lightly modded LS1's. The viper was the new body style, 550 hp/tq.

Keep in mind, I raced the Viper in 3rd Gear. The difference in torque/pull between 2nd and 3rd gear is AMAZING. 3rd Gear blows it out of the water. There is NO doubt in my mind that if I had raced the Cobra up to 120, I would have put on a few cars.
