  • Vortech Install in progress

I have committed myself to making the Vortech V-1 fit the 3.8L. I should have it in my hands in about a week which will allow me to complete my bracket design. The plan is this...Start with a forward rotating V-1 installed on the forward side of the belt using the flat side of the belt as does the Powerdyne, but using two 6-rib idler pulleys to maintain belt contact with at least 75% of the pulley. Once I have my bracket design modeled in wood, I can bring it to my CNC machine shop and have them create a program to make copies in either 3/8" 6061-T6 or 7075-T6 aluminum. After which time I will be able to post pics and offer copies of the brackets for sale.

why run it on the back side when its been proven that it does suck why not make it run on the front side of the belt then you dont have to worry about belt slipage at all even with going to a smaller pully

75% coverage is pretty good but I don't know if its enough to avoid slippage at full throttle. Since it is gear driven it does use a bit more cranking than the belt driven PD.

Climax Racing here in Cali. told me that they could design a Vortech SC bracket for our 3.8. But they got bought off by Area 51 so I don't know if they are still doing that or if they are doing off road. I wish i could go visit but its 80 miles from where I live.

75% should work just fine, especially if I put a knurled or rough finish on the pulley. The other choice was to use a CCW unit and since this CW one came to me relatively cheap, I've decided to make it work. Besides, it shouldn't really matter how the charger is driven internally, belt or gear. Resistance at the pully is the same. I don't plan on putting on a really small one for insane boost, just small enough to get upwards of 9 PSI. I may have to try a few things, but I will make this work.

I hope to see the end of this project. It'd be nice to have several options for chargers. Keep us posted...

So me being able to run 6psi on an LS1 using a flat pulley proves it sucks? It takes a lot higher impeller speed to make 6psi on my car than your car.

Thanks for the support Mikael. That's what this message board is for, helpful advice and encouragement. I will make this work. What bothers me is how some people simply regurgitate stuff they have heard without benefit of experience. About the use of the Paxton NOVI, I posted a while ago and asked what members would rather use and the respose was Vortech so I will build to that.

Hey I'm with you all the way. I just mention Novi because I would like to see alot of option for our cars. But Vortech is also my choice of blower. I'm still impress when I saw this system with aftercooler on an LS1.
