  • PD rattling and comparisons

My PD is rattling when it is at idle and when it is cruising at 15 mph at 1100 rpm. This started happening when I did the JohnD wrap. It isn't bad or something it just worries me sometimes that it may have a bad effect on the long run.

A couple of weeks ago I went back to Vector Perf. wrap and the rattling is gone. But 10 min. ago I switched back to JohnD Wrap and the rattling is back. Odd, everything is align and all bolts are tight. I believe the rattling is coming from the housing. Is this normal for you PD guys who did the JohnD Wrap?

I also made comparison with the belts. When I was using Gator for the JohnD. wrap I had a terrible time trying to use my AC and the belt was getting glazed quicker and it would slip alot with the AC on. But when I had it at Vector Perf. wrap it was Ok.

Now I tried Gates and it seems to be better. I could use my AC without any problem with the JohnD wrap. This is the original Gates belt that I got with the Kit 6 years ago too and it was all glazed up, no slippage though. But the hotter the engine gets and the heat gets to the belt the more it contracts and the car feels even better. Gates belt works great for the JohnD wrap.

As far as which wrap is better, the JohnD wrap is way ahead. The low end power is great. At roll and partial throttle to 3000 rmp the car takes off really fast. With the Vector Perf., I have to spike it up to get the same effect.

I never experienced the rattle with the power wrap??????

But I did notice a funny swooshing noise when I would hand throttle the engine that wasnt there before. That was probaly from the car just making more boost down low with the power wrap though.

Mine had a rattle too... Discovered that the pulley was slightly loose. It would rotate back and forth on the key. When I put loc-tite on the bolt again, and torqued it down all the way, the rattle went away.

Interesting about the Gates belt. Good to know.

I haven't used the a/c much, because it was cold when I was doing all that stuff.
