  • should I add a turbo

I was thinking of adding a turbo or a supercharger to my car, but the thing is that my car has close to 170,000 miles on it, its a 99 firebird, a friend told me that a turbo or a supercharger wouldnt be a good idea for my car because it already has so many miles, is he right, should I be thinking about getting a new engine instead of adding a turbo or a supercharger?

buy a used engine right now and rebuild it forged to handle boost, but a turbo cam in it, P&P the heads and intake, put a killer valvetrain on it and then buy tiagos turbo. you will be able to handle big amounts of boost and with that setup you will be one of the fastest v6 f-bodys around.

then beef up your tranny and rearend to handle it, and buy some tires to hook up. with that setup you will be guaranteed 12s ifnot 11's
there is obviously more to it than that, but you will have to get a new engine after you blow up yours anyway so why not start off safe. then when you do the swap you can sell your old engine and stuff and get back some $$. that would be your best bet.

remember when you add a huge power adder like that dont expect that to be the only mod yooll buy again, cause you will most likely break some things and will need some ignition stuff and alot of tuning.

miles dont mean the motor is done, do a compression check, and leak down test. I's also get the motor decarbonized to reduce compression, and do all tune up items. if your not having any problems, running 7-8 psi daily, properly tuned The thing could run many miles more.

You could run lower range of boost on it (wound have an intercooler for sure) and go for a long time. The turbo isn't going to take very much life off that engine the way you are talking.
