  • Electric Supercharger.. finally done.

According to http://www.turbomagazine.com/ ... this one is completely legit.

    http://www.boosthead.com

They even blew a motor with it.. too much boost.

      That is pretty neat...
it's $2200 though and doesn't come with everything like the 4 batteries.. I think the last turbo GP was as low as $2500..

I know this has been discussed before here, but the concensus was that it was bs....

here's one finally that is somewhat promising... as far as I can tell, it works.... and that's why I posted it (preventing future flaming)

Geez, with that price I'd rather just throw on a turbo or super and make loads more power.

yeah but at least its becoming a more viable option. If they can get it to charge back up quickly and offer a little more boost i would be pretty interested.

I think within the next 10 years or so electric boost will be the way to go. NEC recently developed batteries that cost the same as normal batteries but charge almost instantly as in less then 30 seconds to charge. That goes for all types from Double A to car batteries. The big thing they were talking about for that technology is electric cars since electric cars are nice and all but if you're going on a roadtrip you've got to sit and charge the batteries for 12-15 hours with this you could stop for lunch or less and have them fully charged.

not too much more, they make about 150hp

Geoff Knight here--Boosthead.com. I appreciate your discussing our ESC supercharger. Just so you are aware of it, many major corporations are now showing great interest in the ESC I designed. A world known supercharger company in Denmark has already tested my motor drive set with one of their superchargers. The results were similar to mine, and their design is centrifugal with seven different supercharger models. So expect many units in Europe within the next year.
I tested a US company's S-trim unit driven by my three motor drive with external oiling, and my Altima made 10 psi @ 24V. Spooling was slower than the roots type, but discharge temps were 30 degrees cooler with the centrifugal model.
We are now offering the three motor drive set with gears, adapters, etc to fit any supercharger--centrifugal, roots, screw, etc for $1000. Now an electric supercharged setup can be made for as little as $1600. The M90 Tbird Eatons are $150-$200, and the accessories are $400 or so.

One more point. My ESC will make more hp than any other forced induction anywhere when compared boost psi to boost psi. We cant compare an intercooled 20 psi turbo kit and my ESC at 8 psi. But both setups on the same car will always make more power with my ESC. The reasons are simple. A turbo requires restrictive exhaust backpressure to make pressure on the intake side. The exhaust pressure vs intake pressure is called the intake-exhaust pressure ratio. A typical turbo will have 2:1, or as an example a 10 psi intake pressure will have 20 psi in the exhaust manifold. So thermodynamic books have a formula to determine how much hp is lost which is the amount my ESC will make more than ANY turbo. Here is the P/V formula:
                          CID X PSI X (RPM X .5) divided by 396,000= additional hp
                          EXAMPLE: 100(cid) x 10 (psi) x (8000 X .5) /396,000 = 10.10 HP (MORE THAN THE BEST TURBO IN EXISTANCE)on a small 1.6 liter engine. Try this on a 5.0 V8 running 6 psi.
                          300 X 6 X 3000 /396,000 = 14hp.
Add to that cooler EGT's, more timing, cooler combustion chamber temps, etc.
All superchargers require hp to turn them, and the formula in simple terms is CFM X PSI divided by 175. So that 5.0 would use:
600CFM X 6 psi/175= 20hp. So my ESC would make 20hp more than a belt driven SC, and 14hp more than a turbo. You may not know this, but physics and thermodynamics dont lie--they simply prove my design superior.
