  • mmk, cant decide on turbo set up or blown set up

it seems like everyone I talk to has a different opinion on my forced induction needs. I dont know TO much about FI, I just know how it works. But I have no idea where I can get kits for my 3.8l besides forcedinductionfabrications.com and the powerdyne sc. I want to keep my question short and easy to answer. People always tell me procharger is really good, but I cant find a 3.8L kit on their site. Now what Im assuming is, people who have procharged their v6's is they just get an LT1 or LS1 kit, and fabricate a few things on them to have em fit? Or am I lost? Also Where can I get the forcedinductionfabrications turbo?

finally what should I get in your honest opinions Turbo or Blower? This car will be driven alot, but I want something fast atleast 13 seconds in the 1/4. What do you guys think about the Powerdyne? Thanks ALOT for any info.

what are your HP goals? You'll only be able to get so much out of a SC. In other words you are a limited. With a turbo the limitations are reduced...

Honestly I dont expect to have a record breaking L36, but something around 330-350 horses sure would be fun.

You're better off getting a turbo then.

with, a 3 inch cat, 3 inch s pipe, 3 inch borla cat back, ram air induction with descreened maf, 3.42s with lsd, and a tsp tuned for a powerdyne. What can I expect to run in the 1/4 with a powerdyne.

I see you're more leaning towards SC PD. Cool.

I still use Whisper lid and ram kit with my PD. Which is by the way the best. HPTuner is a big help. Though the best person to ask would be SSM5411 and Grayman and couple of other guys here.

John D ran 13.6 with 9psi with the PD and that's with a fully dressed car. That's with the standard setup also like FMU and stock fuel injectors (like my setup). James Bawkey has the best time which he ran 13.2. That's also with the standard set up.

I think SSM5411 and Grayman will ran even better because of the way they have their car setup. Weight reduction is a big factor too.

With all the upgrades you can do with the PD now it's definately getting better.

the reason why our cars like turbos is the cam is more of a turbo grind, and the drag on the crank bogs the v6 alot more then a V8.

i have yet to see a 350 RWHP dyno from a PD..... I could have missed it..... but have not seen it yet

350 on stock motor needs a t60-1 or 2 or t61 or t62, to push more air

Turbo sounds like a cool and fun idea, but it looks more complicated to work with, and I just cant picture my Firebird spooling. The times mentioned above with a PD is fine for me, how much faster of a car do I need as a daily driver? With the powerdyne kit are there any other mods or anything else I need to get the blower running properly? Or does it have everything I need? I was also gonna get 44 lb/hr fuel injectors for maximum protection againest detonation.

that will only help if you are lean

tuneing is the only way to do that

If my 3rd gear wouldn't have broke I would of had another dyno run in, but I'm putting in another one tomorrow from a 2000 Camaro with 35,000 miles on it. I can't beleive my tranny lasted 136,000 miles(30,000 with the supercharger). So maybe in a week or two I'll get to the dyno. Also looking into having some G Force transmission internals put in, if it will work. I figure right now I'm running 11-12 psi and when I dynoed last time it was at 7-8 psi with lower timing. I've been able to raise my timing about 6 degrees and with the methanol injection maybe a little more when I get it tuned for it. I also run a VS cam which is designed to work with superchargers better. I 'll post some numbers when I get them.

I dont wanna sound dumb, but to increase the PSI on a sc. You swap out the pulley correct?

Correct, you go smaller to get more boost.

you should be dynoing in 4th gear in the first place
