  • Alright, Guys...

With the re-introduction of my next car (the Camaro), I've decided to just turbo my '98 Camaro and not do the heads (previous, I was going to to head/cam/valvetrain.. then turbo later).

Well, I'm going to wait to gain some money for the turbo set. In the meanwhile, I'm thinking about getting a new turbo cam (VS Cam probably) for it.

Quetion is.. should I also worry about changing the rods, springs, rockers, lifters, retainers, etc?

Probably FFF, but I'm waiting for one to pop up either in the for sale section or on ebay...

Here's the link to the cam:

Thats more of a supercharger cam than a turbo cam.
Either run a fairly large NA cam or a SLIGHTLY turbo biased cam for best results.

Is that the only mod you did with the cam when NA, viper?

Seemingly being "the turbo guy" around here, what would you suggest on my above questions?

hard to say cuase of the low comp ratio in my motor but with head/cam i only picked up ~20 RWHP wit hthe cam.... now after the turbo install... well you know that part.

the car was still very fun to drive N/A

I would upgrade all the valvetrain with the cam to save on headaches later on.

upgrade the entire valvetrain. A nice turbo cam would be 220/220, .500/.500 w/ 1.6 rockers, 115 lsa and 112 intake centerline. 220 duration on both lobes will allow you decent power off the turbo as well as with the turbo spooled without making the motor unstreetable. with our stock heads only flowing well up to .500 lift, i wouldn't go past that untill you get the heads worked on. the 115 lsa prevents reversion back into the motor and helps lower rpm na power. the 112 lsa gives you a little more peak power than lower but more broad power, but it won't sacrifice much under the curve. this is just my opinion, and I would ask someone who does cam design for a living what kind of grind would be best.

upgrade all valvetrain while the cam is being swapped. lifters, pushrods, roller rockers, titanium retainers, seals, and stronger valvesprings are all good investments to keep the motor from breaking.

That sounds like great info, but I'll still be over $2000 total. I'm just looking for the least I can do with a FFF turbo and cam (thanks for all the cam specs that really helps) playing it safe on the engine (ZZP recommends on most of their cams just springs, retainers, and rods).

the least you can do is nothing. The turbo will work on a stock engine... just at lower boost.
