  • Update: Got SC back on, boy did I miss it!

My freshly rebuilt powerdyne arrived Saturday afternoon and I installed it Sunday morning. I forgot how much of a difference it makes.

I thought the SC was going to blow up when I first started the car it was very loud. But, I guess the new bearings will be loud until they break in. I already put 50 miles on it and they are 60% more quiet.

My dad said it was a good thing he rebuilt it when he did because one of the smaller bearings was toast, it has even caused some yellow discoloation on the shaft from overheating.

The whole thing kinda sucked though because I only had about 11,000 or 12,000 on it. I bought it brand new December 2005. Powerdyne said they might have repaired it under waranty But they would have needed to look at it first. Well instead of playing the guessing game and maybe only getting a standard rebuild I decided to let my dad do it.

Oh well aleast now it should last me awile especially with the ceramic bearings and I also sent my front cover to Carl for the venting. The thing that sucked about that is he still charged me $119.00 for only the venting. To bad I didn't show my dad the picture of the venting from Carl's site because once he saw what Carl did for the venting my dad said he could of done that part to.

Holy Cow!! What does your dad do? Is he a machinist?

If he could do this sort of thing, then I would be willing to take mine to him instead.

Ask him about the venting and shimming part. Can he do that too?

I know what you mean about going NA and being blown. There's a big difference in power.

I don't know if he can do the shimming but as soon as he saw what they did for the venting he said "Shoot all they used was vent plug, drilled and tapped the cover and machined the surface, I could have done that" (something like that).

My dad worked in the maintenance department in the company that he works for years and now he is the maintenance supervisor. He has access to basically any machine he needs.

As for doing other superchargers I don't know if he can advantage of the equipment for personal usage that much. I will have to ask him.

He sure saved me alot of money, I basically got the racing rebuild (except shimming) for about $500.00 and if he would have done the venting it would have been only about $230.00. Not having to pay labor is great :D

Super charger works great, I can tell a big difference with the new bearings and venting. Even turning it by hand was alot easier than it ever was. My intake temps are alot lower, they use to be in the 160's under boost and now the are in the high 120's. At idle they were in the 130's and now they are around 115.

I can tell a big difference in low end power.

The shimming is very simple. You need a dremel to grind down where the outter impellar is and 3 washers behind the impellar shaft to bring it out more. How much did they charge you for the bearings?
