• twin turbo?

ok well...i was still thinking of the idea of turboing my car,and well...i never heard of anyone twin turboing a firebird, just wondering what everyones opinion on it is.

Most people's opinions are that a single turbo setup is more cost effective and less of a PITA. Search about the topic, you'll find long debates.

single turbos are cheaper, but i think twin turbos are easier to design, i could be wrong.

Imagine a single turbo setup, doubled. Not easier really.

yeah, basically, you'd have to do about twice the work and then some cuz you'd have to get them to synchronize. you dont wanna be running 4psi in one bank and 7 in the other. plus, you have to take into consideration space. we dont have a whole lotta space around the engine and you also have to make sure you get the thing intercooled too, cuz w/o it you pretty much defeat the purpose of having a turbo in the first place. really, stick with one turbo in my opinion.

One thing i know of TT is that you can set up the turbo's to spool differently. Meaning 7 psi from one turbo kicks in, then higher up in the rpm range the other turbo kicks in. I don't know how this works to the fullest extent, but i've heard the BOVs on a TT supra go seperatly and it sounded sweet

Yeah it is possible, but its not really the most efficient.

Isnt that sequential turbo then?... when you have two turbo's (one smaller, one larger). The smaller one spools up quicker reducing turbo lag (which i heard is pretty bad if you turbo an F-Body... is that true?). the Second bigger one takes over in the higher RPM range to provide more boost than the smaller one could. Don't know if i am completely acurate or not so if anyone else has more info please add or correct me. I am lookin to rebuild my 3800 II and want to turbo unless there is a NOTICABLE lag.

the problem with twin turbos is that you'd have to run significantly smaller turbos. You'd have to run one off each side of the engine. That means each one is only using 3 cylinders to try to make boost.

Parallel twin turbos(same size) do not really offer a advantage over one bigger turbo, just more parts. Sequential twin turbos(different sizes) are good for road course racing but are very difficult to build.

Lag on the 3800 is what you make it. Everyone building kits are putting big turbos on. If you dont want any lag, put a smaller turbo on. You can build a turbo system to make power wherever you want. If you put a small turbo on, it will make power down low, but will suffer power up top. If you put a big turbo, you will have no low end power with lots of lag, but will make lots of power up top.

I don't think there really is an advantage to TT. Alot of Supra, 300zx and 3000GT owners are ditching the TT in favor of a big single turbo.

ok,so if i did a twin turbo setup,its...really not worth it cuz its not gonna make it any faster? and i wanted to set it up for drag,so if anything goes wrong,i have another vehicle i can drive.im just looking for something no one really has...
