• Supercharger reliability questions?

Does anyone know how long (how many miles) a centrifugal supercharger will last before it wears out?
Out of all of you who have installed one of these, who unit has gone the furthest or lasted the longest? I thought I read in an earlier post that someone only got 7,000 miles out of theirs!
Is there one particular make that stands out over the others?

Checked out the web sites of the major players (Procharger, Powerdyne, Vortech...etc.)and none of them have any real info regarding this (just warranty stuff)

It just depends. Reliability was a big issue for PD when they got started. But I was lucky and went 6 straight years without any problems. I only sent mine to 928 motorsport so I could get the upgraded bearings and kevlar belt.

THe upgraded bearings makes it better.

I think Shirl did a thousand races without a hiccup. Ofcourse the higher you go on boost the more reliability slips down.

www.superchargeronline.com check them out and see what the members there will tell you. As you can see that both Vortech and ATI has their own issues too. As a matter of fact ATI got so much bashing that they took themselves out of the board and as a sponsor.

Root blowers and WHipple seems to have a good track record on reliability.

Thanks for the response and the link. 6 years and 1k races sounds impressive! I've seen many Eaton roots style and Turbo Chargers go for 150k plus miles with no problems and was wondering about these gear (or belt) driven centrifugal compressors.
