I talked to the mechanic at one of our local speed shops and he reccommended that if I buy a Powerdyne sc then I should get the gear driven model because the belt driven model trashes the bearings pretty bad. Have you heard anything like that?

I'm planning on buying those expensive racing bearings. And early next year have the rebuilt done along with venting and shimming at 928Motorsport. I've been hearing a lot of positive things about this.

I think the gear driven powerdynes won't work as well on our cars since we run off the flat side of the belt. The gear driven superchargers take alot more force to spin them. I could see you actually losing boost and burning up your belt more going this route. I thought about upgrading before but backed out. If we could route the belt so we used the ribbed side I would change over to the Xb11 in a heartbeat.
Dam, 9 years Shirl, have you ever opened the cover on it? I bet theres alot of debris in there from the belt.
M.T. , You can do the venting yourself if you wanted to. They just grinded where the impeller is and added 3 spacers behind the impeller to bring it forward. Very easy. Now the venting is a good price, because I couldn't find a place to sell the little vents cheaply. So 119.00 isn't bad.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Eh, shouldn't be too bad in there. I only have around 23,000 miles on the car. Not planning on upgrading the bearings anytime soon (until the time comes).2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph

I have 10,000 miles on my bd11a internal belt powerdyne. it has been running a grooved ASP 6 psi pulley the whole time. The entire kit was brand new...but used...(becuase the kid that originaly bought it was not a member here and he was trying to get profesional mechanics to install it and of course the professional mechanics could not get it to work correctly because they don't hang around here either...so it cost the guy $4000+ to buy the kit new and then however many hundreds and thousands in shop time only to give up and sell it to me for 2100 bucks on ebay.) and i installed it correctly and prepped the car correctly (becuase i hang around here and learned a lot about the 3.8L fbody powerdyne from our wise members) and it has run flawlessly the whole time.
ssms5411 know what he is talking about. The gear driven xblla blower unit is stronger but becuase of it being gear driven (internaly) it has more drag. that is bad for us aa we mount the blower pulley on the 'back' (smooth) side of main accessories belt. It will just slip.
Besides....once you go over 6psi you need to start modding the fuel system. when you get to double digit boost you run the risk of maxing out the limitations of the computer sensors, etc. At this point you must become an export in engine computer tuning.....
wow, that was a long reply.
besides, have you ever heard a gear driven supercharger? you will know it when you do. so will everyone else.

The install is easy, its a matter of removing 4 bolts and installing 3 bolts and plate and the headunit. Then running the pipes, if you arent running more than 6psi you really wont need the fmu, but that takes about 2 hours to set up. Total time if you have mechanical know how- 3 hours, if you dont -5 hours. After the head unit, do your plugs which takes about an half-hour if you have headers...
Just make sure you have a pully puller...[ full bolt on\'s and blown.]
[formerly known as naptown]
[just know that im teh man ]
