Does anyone know the safe zone of force fed applications for the 3.8? I got the idea of turbocharging a long time ago, because I was interested in the Grand Nationals. But the grand national 3.8 is much different than our 3.8 because it has forged internals. I know that I can go out and buy forged pistons, lower my compression to 8 or 8.5 and use 6psi of boost. But when is it too much for our engine to handle? 9 psi? 10psi? 12psi?

The GN doesn't come w/ forged internals stock.

Your stock engine should be able to take about 10psi and 350rwhp- as long as you don't run lean or detonate.

If you build it up forged, i'd be concerned with the main caps and the block- the rotating assembly could take 800rwhp no prob. Just look at the Supra's.

I dunno about you guys but 350whp would be enough to keep me happy...

You don't necessarily need forged internals to run moderate boost...as a matter of fact you give forged internals the right environment and you will have melted pistons all the same...
the real trick is running at the right AFR and optimal spark advance. The more you boost the more fuel is needed and the less timing advance...optimally. It is more complicated but it is a guiding tool. The L36 has almost 9 1/2 to 1 CR, timing at WOT...I have seen as much as 26 degrees. In the real world that is too much for 9psi and 91 owl piss octane...the compromise? Pull back timing on the street, run less boost...for the strip, run higher octane fuel, add more timing (to a point) as long as you can maintain the right AFR you can run up to 1 bar intercooled without too much issues. Now the question is for how long...now this is were forged internals come into play!!
