• Cam for Forced Inductoin?

What cams our you guys running in your forced induction cars?

    Any particular you would recommend?

This summer I plan on starting to build up the engine in my car and was wondering what a good cam would be for a N/A (til I get some boost) and Super Charged application?

Don't want to lose to much reliability if I have to. I asked this here because I wanted responces from guys that run FI into their cars.

Edit: CAI and !cat coming soon. I'm trying to get a list together of everything I am going to get done so I know exactly what I need when it comes time to do it.

    Thanks!

do a search there should be plenty of info on this topic as it has been asked several times before. Also when you do your search make sure the ones you look at pertain specifically to Supercharger cams as they are different than turbo cams. my suggestions would be to hold off on the cam till you get the supercharger and then put it in. also why did you choose to go supercharger and what supercharger system are you looking at? I only ask so as to make sure you get what you really want and dont waste your money.

I'm just now starting to look into what I want so by the time the money is there I know what I want.

I would rather have a SC because I do not have to wait til 3500 RPM's for the power to build up. I do not like alot of the turbo's I have looked at to where there is a straight pipe running straight out of the turbo. I'd rather have the cleaner set up of the SC and not having to route the exhaust pipes up front. I would like to atleast have a muffler and not have to deal with open pipes all the time since it is my daily driver.

I've been looking at the Powerdyne, I dont want to run but 7-9 pounds of boost. I'm not sure yet, I'm going to check at a shop that specializes in twin turbo's and other Forced induction soon.

I want to get the cam before I get the SC because if the engine is getting taken apart once I'm not going to pay for the disassembly again if I dont have to (get it all done at once). When the engine comes out I'll get everything done to it.

My turbo kit is for sale. full bolt on for your year car... never used, never installed.. all parts brand new.

the turbo hits full boost at 2700-2800 RPM. leaving you MPG in daly driving... starts biulding boost at 2500-2600 RPM.
so there really not much differance cause theres no way th SC will make full boost at 3K RPM
~$50 at a exuast shop will connect the down pipe to your current exuast.

i figured that was what you were thinking, here is the deal. with the powerdyne you will reach patial boost before the turbo (about 2-3psi at 2000rpm) from there on out the turbo outperforms it by hitting full boost at or below 3000rpm. the supercharger wont hit full boost till 5700+rpm (depending on what your rev limiter is set at). also you will get better mileage with the turbo until you come under boost making it better for daily driver applications. as for cams for a turbo, intense makes a few but untill you add the turbo they wont really shine, in fact they really wont help at all. the stock cam is surprisingly good for turbo apps, i would tell you to stick with it and save your money for valvetrain/pnp heads and intake, if you decide to go the way of the turbo.

I can see that it would only take a few feet of pipe but there would it be routed? It could easily have the possiblity of getting ripped off/crushed if I put it under the a-arms. Where else is there?

I think I'm going to go with a super charger.

take a peak at teufel hunden's car, his has the downpipe routed along the side of the engine. It would take some carefull measuring but if that is all that is keeping you from going turbo then there are ways around it. The performance of turbo'd cars have been better as a whole than SC cars. You must look at power under the curve if you want the best performing car. For the extra $1000 for the super you are not getting a lot of things like an intercooler, for the extra money you save with the turbo you could upgrade your fuel pump, injectors, and get tuning software. I'm just trying to give you facts that i have learned from doing research on this subject for years now.
