  • does motor need a rebuild for a supercharger?

    Hey Guys,
I have 94,000 miles on my firebird, and i want to add a supercharger to it. I would do a custom intercooled application pushing like 10 lbs of boost. Will my motor be able to handle that with that many miles on it? A few people have told me the piston rings will get ****ed up.
Also, are there any other mods to do that help in a supercharged application? I've heard of something that you do so that the crankcase doesn't get pressurized.
    Thanks alot,
    Ron

Hello search! Look at the top right of the window.

You need to do the PCV mod on the TB, and add a CCB. An FMU will help as well.

Some have done rebuilds, others just run until it blows up.

you have to spend at least 10grand on your engine to handle 2 psi.

You should be OK as long as you have good compression going on. Then no need for a rebuild.

I have never done any PCV or plugging the TB hole or any thing to the engine and it's running fine. But if you want to do those to safe guard yourself then by all means.

I would recommend though getting a breather, and BOV.

Are you going for the Powerdyne or ATI or custom? JFYI, Powerdyne has no intercooler, ATI
              does.

              Good Luck.

Also, good reference member would be SSM, Steve. He did rebuilt his engine before adding the SC.

He's running a 2.6 pulley which he is producing boost at 11 psi and over. And that's non-intercooled too.

Since PD runs cooler because of the lack of oil lubrication and exhaust heat you can get away with that kind of boost, but not on other applications.
