    Hey fellas (and ladies)I was just wondering, even with out detonation (which is not a problem if the air is passed through an intercooler) you dont think that we will have problems with things like head bolts stretching or blown rings? I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but I was just currious for my self (honestly I dont know and was looking for an answer). I know that you have probably thought of this already but figured I'd ask just incase. Thanks for the time guys.

        I agree with you SC, to some extent.

        If 12PSI is enough to blow past the rings and pressurize the crankcase to such an extent that it blows out the frikken dipstick *ahem* STEFAN *ahem*, intercooling it won't do you a damn bit of good. In fact, the denser air will be MORE LIKELY to blow past the rings! Intercooling might reduce detonation, but if the rings/pistons cant take it - it'll never work.

          hrmmmm I am just wondering but such great intrest is shown here has anyone considered a Group purchase [img]smile.gif[/img] hehe I mean you would think they would give a discont on 10 SC's right [img]smile.gif[/img] Just wondering I know it wold be a little hard to organize but hell if we could get a couple hundred off it would be cool [img]smile.gif[/img]

            Funny that Shirl's 6 psi Powerdyne also blew out the dipstick, as did several others back in the day.

            When we tore my motor apart we expected to see the rings heavily worn but they were in mint condition. Even after I installed the GTP pistons and rings and only running 8 psi I was still blowing the dipstick. The dipstick shooting phenomenon was due to a design difference between the L36 and L67 regarding the PCV system. In a nutshell the L67 PCV is a lot more effective.

            The solution to my dipstick shooting was simple--removing the 2" exhaust bottleneck that I had between the Y-pipe and the cat. Once I had a smooth 3" interior diameter the whole way through I had no problems. Been driving on it for upwards of a year now without a single dipstick shootout.

            Upgrading the rings didn't do a thing to help against it. The weak link was the exhaust, not the rings.

                  Well I'm glad I took a peek into the Forced Induction area.....if this project follows through then I'd be all over it! Would the 9.6:1 CR from the supersix package be too much for the supercharger? I know you don't really wanna bump it up too much but thats only .2 from stock. And about the 12psi problem...pick up a set of the forged pistons from wiseco.com for about 500 bucks. Not too much money for a little added peace of mind. :D

                    Are you saying that the final price will be $3500 after buying the supercharger, your custom parts, and anything else you need? If so, that's a pretty good deal.

                        We are not setting a price for a kit. Nor are we going to tell you what you will pay for the parts. Everyone could find used stuff or new stuff for different parts. It's all up to you.

                        Well, we are going after the 3.4. Mine! As for HP, if your getting 160 at the wheels, I'm impressed!!! We are lucky to see 130 at the wheels. This is another reason that I want this done. GM made a mistake putting this slow motor in our cars to start with, so we need to fix there mistakes, again....

                            I'm getting really excited about this. I'm already finding myself browsing the various for sale boards for some good deals on a P600b. I want to find out which place is selling the p600b kit for $2950 brand new with a 2-core intercooler, someone mentioned that in another thread....thats a dang good price!

                                Steve more or less covered everything in the other post, I just wanted to add a detail or two... the new setup, once complete, will not be an official kit, but it will be more of an adapter. The idea is you order your supercharger, intercooler, gauges, low-profile fan, and a few other small parts (we will have lists of exactly what you need to order from ATI). Then you order the conversion parts from us. The parts include: INSTRUCTIONS, 8+8 crankshaft pulley (has room for the 8-rib serpentine belt and the 8-rib supercharger belt), supercharger mounting bracket, and a few pipes and hoses. Because you won't be ordering the full kit from ATI, the end cost will be around the same as an LT1 or LS1 kit (around $3500). We're not looking to make any major profit, we just want to see more 3.8s out there blowing the doors off the competition.

                                With the intercooled setup, 12 psi should present no problems to the stock internals of the 3.8. With 12 psi, full factory timing, and the intercooler, our setup should be able to provide around 310 hp at the rear wheels, a 150 improvement over stock. Details of this will be confirmed when Ryan (BATMAN) gets his dyno numbers within the next two months. We'll be comparing his to mine, that has the same setup but a boost-built motor.
