  • Fuel Setups for boostin

I got some questions on what all you guys with FI have as far as gettin the extra fuel. Is an inline pump better or easier or more effective than an in-tank pump. If you op for the inline pump is it supplimentry to the normal pump all the time or only under boost? As far as I see theres 2 fuel lines comin from the stock system (in the heat shield). How are these routed to the FMU? I looked at Stefan's system and I couldn't quite trace all the lines.

If anyone could give me the heads up on how this stuff all works I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks for the link man. I got the instructions although not many of the pictures developed. That seems alot easier than droppin the tank. And no one would really even know. Although still if anyone knows about the FMU routing tuning and some good advice just slap down a reply.

Dear god search. I had these exact same questions. Really. And then I cut a fuel line and spliced ..... how did I know? I asked ... check my threads. Should be around this forum somewhere. "FMU Selection" "HELP QUICK FMU question" and "MY Turbo Install" , etc.

I say definitely go with the in-tank pump. I got mine for $100 new, and I didnt get any special deal. The install took less than three hours, and I feel way more comfortable knowing that I only have one good pump to worry about, instead of one good pump and one not-as-good pump (in-line setup).

I used the access panel method, and it sure was a breeze.

Now, as far as FMU's go, I had to order the fuel line adaptors from Vortech. After I got over the initial shock of paying 80 dollars for 2 small sections of fuel line, I was very happy, because it made everything go very smoothly. The FMU is located in the engine bay, where the fuel lines go from the fuel rail to line that goes to the tank. There are 3 semi-flexible hoses that connect this section, and pop off very easily with a 3 dollar tool from pep-boys. The fmu is mounted on the return line, which was the line furthest back on the engine. With the vortech lines, you just pop off one end of the stock line, pop in the vortech lines, and screw them into the FMU.

I finally got all of the fuel system bugs worked out this weekend (took about 4 months). It took me so long because as good as this board is, there still aren't a whole bunch of people who have gone through putting FMU's on.

Quick note- this board is an AWESOME resource for the fuel pump install!

Also, knowing how difficult it was to find everything out about the fuel system, anybody can email me whenever they want and I will make it my goal for his (or her) fuel problems to be solved (assuming I know the right information).
